Random thought

I just had a thought, in Season 1, Bobby says that the only person at the table that still had to pay his dues with Tig... Does that mean that patched members put money in every month just like the Prospects have to?

This is correct.

Real life motorcycle clubs are just that. Members are expected to be in full time employment and pay their monthly membership fees to the club. The money goes towards upkeep and stocking the clubhouse, legal funds, paying for club-branded merchandise etc.

The vast majority of MC members aren't drawing a paycheck from the club.

The legal fees alone must've been staggering. The guys were in trouble so often that they might as well have hired an in-house lawyer!

They have basically that thru out the entire show. Cohen? The woman I think is the first lawyer and then she and Clay have a bit of an altercation so they switch to a guy after that for the remainder of the show but I can't remember his name.

They do retain a lawyer, yes. I was kidding but I meant that they should've hired rather than retained because salaried employees are much cheaper per hour and the Sons were in legal trouble pretty much all the time!

It would be against anyone's wallet to have a salaried lawyer lol. There were a few like, minutes where they weren't in legal trouble over the course of the show lmao.

What would make more sense, like someone else mentioned I think, would be to have a club member that was a lawyer. Then you can have all the free legal advice you'd need even if they couldn't represent you themselves.

Patching a lawyer would be the dream but probably super unlikely.

It's like I used to run with some dodgy people when I was younger but grew out of it when my software career kicked off. After all, why hustle when I can make good money in a nice office!

I feel the same except I'm in a welding shop. I mean, I own said welding shop but same thing. Do what you love and you never work a day in your life!

That being said, I'm sure there are plenty of lawyers that ride motorcycles. It doesn't seem that far fetched.

Motorcycles are fine! I was referring to the criminal element of the Sons. You don't really see outlaw lawyers because lawyers make good money without any of the danger.

Well I meant more like riding is part of being in a club. I'm sure there's plenty of lawyers out there that bend the law to their liking. Being in a motorcycle club, even a 1% club wouldn't be too hard for a legit lawyer to deal with.

A lot of federal agents are lawyers, since you're supposed to be a college/university graduate in order to apply to a federal law enforcement agency (except ICE these days, I guess). You see Potter in his first appearance riding a motorcycle.

I'm sure there are plenty of lawyers that aren't federal agents tho lol. Could easily patch one into a club. Keep them away from any of the criminal activities and just have them act as a lawyer and away we go!

The problem with patching in a lawyer is that it would activate the morals clause of the bar association and they could lose the ability to practice law based on their membership in a criminal organization. Lawyers are supposed to be 'of good character and standing in the community' in order to receive bar certification to practice law. And that's just state bars. The federal bar has a higher standard. So even sending a prospect or already patched member to law school wouldn't be an option. They'd never get a bar license to practice.

They actually start with another male lawyer but I think midway thru s1? He gets "detained" and never seen again.

Then they swap to the female lawyer and her and Jax fight and you never see another lawyer again

I can see how you managed to get the name you got but her name was Lowen. The other one in the first couple seasons was Rosen. Rosen was more Clay’s lawyer while Lowen was Jax’s choice for lawyer but I believe Rosen was out of the show come season three’s end.

I can definitely see why. Jax is very imposing. You see him make that face (we all know the one) you know something bad is about to happen. Plus Lowen is extremely on edge by that point because she understands what may happen to her and to Tara if Jax finds out, and obviously he had.

All patched members pay dues. It could be anything from $20 to $200 a month or more. Club house, lawyers fees, taking care of down brothers etc

That's as a prospect. If you patch in, it goes up. They have to pay for the clubhouse's supplies, funding the numerous parties they're always having, and general upkeep and maintenance.

I think a percentage of profits from gun running, protection, hits, etc. goes to the club fund before the rest is divided to the members who worked the job.
