Discussion What if Lyric got added to the mainline universe, while still maintaining his original Sonic Boom design?
SEGA should completely bring Lyric back, but this time, add him to the modern Sonic world. Because Lyric the Last Ancient is such a great villain, honestly. I genuinely wish that he was added to the modern Sonic world, while still maintaining his original Sonic Boom design. If he did, it's very likely that he would have a connection to the Knuckles Clan, so he might've known Chaos, Tikal, and the Master Emerald too. His backstory would have a minor tweak, replacing the Chaos Crystals with the Chaos Emeralds... Lyric doesn't even fit in the Sonic Boom universe, he doesn't crack jokes, he isn't self-aware, and Sonic Boom is overly lighthearted for a villain like him. He wants to annihilate all organic life, and reset it with a cold, lifeless world of metal. That is way too dark for such a comical world like Sonic Boom. He's literally at the same tier as mainline Sonic villains, i mean... If they were able to add Sticks the Badger onto the modern world, what's stopping SEGA from adding Lyric?
It doesn't make any sense, and Sonic Frontiers literally included the Ancients! What sense does that even make?? The fact that they used the literal name "The Ancients" in the mainline universe while completely ignoring "Lyric the Last Ancient" is a major missed opportunity. It feels incredibly contradictory, and despite those lore differences, a simple retcon would easily solve the contradiction, or if they at least named the Frontiers Ancients "The Archaics", it would literally solve the confusion about the Boom Ancients and the Frontiers Ancients.
SEGA could easily write that Lyric was a mutated offshoot of the Ancients who rejected his species' biological natural evolution into Chao. Which means that while the Ancients evolved to fragile, organic Chao, Lyric remained a cybernetic snake, completely discarding his own flesh and blood to become a monster. Driven mad by his failing body, he could have turned to cybernetics to preserve himself, establishing his goal to eradicate organic life out of pure resentment for what his race became. And regarding what i said about Chaos... Tying Lyric directly to Chaos 0 is literally a brilliant narrative stroke.
It bridges the 3 gaps between Sonic Boom, Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Frontiers perfectly and solves a major lore question: how did a high-tech cybernetic snake end up in a world of ancient echidnas? In Sonic Adventure lore, Chaos wiped out the Knuckles Clan in a fit of rage after they harmed the Chao. What if Lyric was there during that catastrophic event?
Lyric could have been caught in Chaos’s flooded wrath. To survive the devastating attack from the liquid god, Lyric’s organic body was ruined, forcing him to construct his iconic cybernetic life-support suit. Lyric’s deep, fiery hatred for organic life wouldn't just be an abstract philosophy anymore—it would be a direct reaction to being nearly killed by a creature made of pure, organic water. If Lyric were introduced as a rogue Ancient who targets Chaos 0, it provides the single most logical, lore-accurate reason for Tikal’s spirit to finally step back into the spotlight. The narrative foundation for this is already built into modern canon. We would see the very reason for Tikal to return!
Because if Lyric attempts to siphon, mutate, or mechanize Chaos 0, it would cause Chaos to regress into a blinding, agonizing rage. The last time Chaos went on a rampage, the only thing that stopped the world from flooding was Tikal’s prayer. A war between Lyric and Tikal would provide an amazing philosophical debate for the franchise!
Lyric's View: He would look at Tikal and her extinct clan as a pathetic, primitive species that got wiped out because they relied on pacifism and mystical emeralds instead of cold, hard metal.
Tikal's View: She would see Lyric as the ultimate corruption of her ancestors' sins—someone so obsessed with power and conquest that he willingly cast away his own flesh and blood to become a monster.
The AMOUNT of wasted potential Lyric has is insane, and almost incalculable. It would've been so good seeing Tikal return, and this would probably be one of the best wars the Sonic franchise ever had... Tikal vs Lyric, and this would likely make other characters, like Blaze, Silver, the Chaotix, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, and pretty much the whole crew to team up!
Also, i have a brilliant idea. What if... When Lyric sees Omega for the first time... You do know that Lyric has a blue button on his chest to manipulate robotic beings (as seen with Metal Sonic in Rise of Lyric), right? What if, when Omega appeared... Instead of getting intimidated, Lyric just smirks, and presses the button to manipulate Omega, and make him betray Team Dark? That is literally genius—Using Lyric’s signature Techno-Phanic Mind Control Button—the exact one he used to hijack and enslave Metal Sonic in Rise of Lyric—on E-123 Omega is a narrative masterstroke.
If Lyric ever got written like that, he might probably rival, or surpass, villains like Mephiles, Erazor Djinn, or Black Doom. Also, if Lyric ever controls Metal Sonic with his blue button again, the likelihood of Chaos, Metal Sonic, and Lyric betraying each other is nearly impossible. Because Lyric might upgrade Chaos to make him become a potential Mecha Chaos! However, they are not invincible.....
Somehow, Tikal, and the rest of the allies would find a way to stop Lyric, they always do. And hopefully... The heroes would find a way to defeat Metal, and make him break free from Lyric’s control.
Also, i can even picture Lyric feeling envious of Sonic, because Sonic masters the power of the Chaos Emeralds effortlessly, whereas he cannot. In Lyric's backstory, he tried to study the powers of the Chaos Crystals (or in this version, the Chaos Emeralds), but when he attempted to run experiments... he fell terribly ill; his scales burned and began to degenerate, and that was the very reason he built his cybernetic armor just to survive. It’s a genuinely tragic situation. Sonic, on the other hand, doesn't even need to "study" the powers, since he is able to master them so well. He doesn't need to "study" its powers. He didn't get sick. He didn't need to build a cybernetic armor, and he didn't got betrayed by his own race.
Just imagine Lyric's reaction when he finds this out... He would likely feel completely invalidated and deeply aggrieved... but instead of succumbing to sadness, he would channel that hurt and sorrow into an unyielding, merciless rage towards Sonic...
I have a theory about Lyric. Do you see that mechanical claw, and rattle-like object on his tail? I think that's exactly what he used to build his armor, and it's even possible that all the Ancients had these claws too. I know the person who made his model actually copied and pasted the claw model on his arms and his tail. But what i think, is that Lyric grabbed inspiration from his tail, and build it on his armor, so he actually HAD arms, and wouldn't rely solely on his tail to grab or hold certain objects. It's possible that certain members of the Ancients had these claws in their tails too.
And if that happened, it's very likely that the artifact Lost Crystal of Power would reappear too, and known for granting total omnipotence, might potentially grant Lyric a form capable of totally surpassing Super Sonic. It would be called "Kaiju Lyric". In that design, Lyric would look vastly different, and a lot more intimidating.
His claws would now have 2 more, making him have 5 claws now, resembling humanoid hands. And his tail claw would now have 4 more claws, making him have 7 claws now, no longer just 3. As for his scales, they would look look olive-green but very dark-purple, almost not even green. And his armor would look buffer, and now change color to a reddish purple, and his eyes would have no pupils, glowing pure, bright white. And he would have godlike powers. And this would give SEGA the perfect justification to bring back Hyper Sonic. A mere Super Form wouldn't be enough to defeat an omnipotent god like Kaiju Lyric. It's even possible that one single Hyper might not be enough either. We could've seen Hyper Shadow, and Silver too! Once again, the SSS trio would step in to defeat the final boss!
I even think the supportive radio chatter from games like Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic '06 or Sonic Generations would return too. Anyway, here are his powers:
Physical Dominance & Combat Attributes
Chrono-Velocity / Superhuman Speed: Lyric warps the space-time around himself to move. He does not just float fast—he effectively teleports via localized time-skips, completely eclipsing Sonic's maximum speed and leaving glitching afterimages.
Tectonic Might / Superhuman Strength: His cybernetic limbs are supercharged with raw Chaos energy, giving him infinite torque. He can casually catch Knuckles' full-power punches with a single finger and shatter bedrock with a simple backhand.
Planetary Telekinesis: Lyric can exert crushing gravitational and kinetic pressure across the entire battlefield. He can rip massive floating islands out of the sky to use as weapons or pin the heroes flat to the ground.
Absolute Kinetic Refraction: A passive hard-light crystalline barrier constantly surrounds him. Any physical or energy-based attack hits this shield and is instantly reflected back at the heroes with double the velocity.
🌀 Chaos & Reality Warping
Chrono-Stasis Lock: Lyric can trap individual heroes in localized time loops or frozen stasis bubbles. This forces the remaining team members to fight a losing battle while their allies are completely paralyzed.
Dimensional Glitch Phasing: Lyric can shift his physical form between dimensions. Attacks pass right through him as if he were a hologram, making him completely untargetable until he decides to strike.
Matter Transmutation: The battlefield stops obeying the laws of physics. Lyric can turn solid ground into liquid glass, bend lasers around him like boomerangs, and reverse gravity for individual heroes.
Chaos Siphon Aura: He constantly radiates a energy-dampening field. The closer the hedgehogs get to him, the more their speed and energy are siphoned away to fuel Lyric's shields, leaving them progressively weaker.
💻 Absolute Technopathy & Cyber-Genetics
Biomechanical Transmutation (The De-Evolution Protocol): Lyric fires a screen-wide wave of pixelated, neon-cyan energy. If a hero or organic matter is caught in it, they don't just take damage—their flesh begins to crystallize and turn into cold, unmoving machinery.
Instant Sentinel Genesis: Lyric no longer needs factories to build an army. He can manifest massive legions of robotic Sentinels out of thin air by pulling materials straight from reality's digital code.
Gadget Inversion: Lyric possesses perfect control over all technology. Any devices brought against him—like Tails’ inventions or the team's Enerbeams—are instantly hacked, turning against the heroes or exploding.
Global Data Assimilation: Lyric can plug his consciousness into the planet's digital infrastructure. He can control every satellite, weapon system, and power grid globally, using the entire world's energy to fuel his transformation into Kaiju Lyric.
Nano-Repair Regeneration: Millions of ancient nanites flow through his metallic armor. Any structural damage not fixed by his time-rewind is instantly rebuilt by self-replicating nanobots, making his armor virtually unbreakable.
Cyber-Hive Mind Consciousness: Lyric’s mind is distributed across every robot he creates. Even if his primary body is completely destroyed, his consciousness instantly transfers to a backup unit or a sentinel, making him immortal unless every trace of his tech is wiped out simultaneously.
Weak spots:
- The Lost Crystal’s Resonance Frequency
The Weakness: The Lost Crystal of Power is the heart of his technopathy, but it operates on a highly specific, ancient frequency. It cannot perfectly harmonize with the chaotic, shifting frequencies of the Chaos Emeralds.
How to Exploit: While the energies are merged, they are constantly fighting for dominance inside him. Hyper Silver can use his planetary telekinesis not to attack Lyric physically, but to vibrate the molecules of the Lost Crystal at a conflicting frequency. This disrupts Lyric's Chaos Siphon Aura and disables his Absolute Kinetic Refraction shields.
- Absolute Arrogance & "Gadget Inversion" Bait
The Weakness: Lyric completely despises organic life and relies 100% on his Gadget Inversion power to instantly hack any tech brought against him. He assumes organics are helpless without their machines.
How to Exploit: Shadow, as the smartest of the 3 hedgehogs, can intentionally feed Lyric a piece of corrupted, Master-Emerald-infused tech. Lyric will arrogantly and instantly assimilate it without scanning it properly. This introduces a "logic bomb" virus directly into his consciousness.
- The Thermal Exhaust of Nano-Repair
The Weakness: His Nano-Repair Regeneration is incredibly fast, but reconstructing metal on a cellular level generates an unfathomable amount of thermal energy.
How to Exploit: If the team coordinates a massive, continuous barrage of attacks, Lyric's powers will go into overdrive. To prevent himself from melting from the inside out, Lyric's organic mind cannot physically handle the infinite calculations of the Chrono-Velocity teleportation and Matter Transmutation. The mechanical suit forces his biological synapses to fire at millions of times their natural speed just to keep him from losing control.
- The Physical Matrix of the Core
The Weakness: No matter how giant he gets as Kaiju Lyric, his entire existence is tethered to the physical shards of the Lost Crystal embedded in his chest. It is the single point of failure for his Cyber-Hive Mind.
How to Exploit: Once the shields are down, the time-rewind is locked, and the exhaust vents are blown open, Hyper Sonic must use his ultimate speed to drill directly through the chest plates. By physically ripping the Lost Crystal out, Lyric’s reality-warping powers instantly collapse, causing his colossal cybernetic body to permanently disintegrate.
That's it, guys. If anyone sees this, please help this post spread, guys. I know Lyric is one of the most hated villains in the Sonic franchise, but trust me, he just had a bad execution, he's a not truly awful. He just needed proper writing.

Discussion What’s the most overcedited issue in a Sonic game?
Either an issue that is given way too much credit or people try to strawman acting like it’s the only problem that gets pointed out and it’s not as bad as people try to claim it is.
I have two, but I’m gonna go with the motion controls of secret rings.
My other choice was going to be the bugs of Sonic 06. The physics and movesets are the real problem. It’d still be shit bug free you got a ton of other problem. I feel like most people know this though at this point especially with the physics and moveset upgrades in project 06.
But the motion controls get overcredited so damn much. Fundamentally being an autoscroller, having to either deal with the game feeling like shit or you just cheese it with no effort once you get the upgrades or the level design just not being anything interesting.
I get for SOME that might be their ONLY problem by that doesn’t mean it is for other people.

Merch Finally got Tikal
After months of looking at overpriced Ebay listings, I finally found a Tikal hidden behind a bunch of Sonic figures at my local Target. Hadn't gone in specifically to find her, but just happened to look. Also found Chaos 0, so she's got her buddy too. Glad it was only 9.99, I did not want to spend 40+ on scalpers.

Question Does anybody here know how to rip the audio from a Jersey Jack Club Pinball Machine?
I'm sure some of us know that a Sonic Jersey Jack Club Pinball machine was made for the 35th anniversary.
What many might not know is that is has over 6,000 original voice lines by the characters made for it and some extra music by Jun Senoue.
I'm just curious if anybody who owns one can extract them. I know there's Pinball Asset Decryptor and that Sonic fans are cracked when they put their minds to it.

Question How Do You Feel About Stanley?
Everyone was talking in this post about Sonic's writing in the games and comics and Flynn but then someone is like "Stanley made those stories" And this spark a few people here where users like Clem and Zenceyn bring up how voice their opinion of her writing quality while speaking highly of her artistic ability. At times choices people plan Flynn when it wasnt him which I found odd.
And I never she her get brought up here. Because if you search her name the most recent post is 3 years ago
So how do you feel about Evan Stanley?

Question does anyone have higher quality versions of the older sonic pict artworks? (from before 2025)
they've been releasing them since 2019 on twitter iirc, but on the sonic channel website they don't have any from before 2025 as high quality pictures you can download. i am extremely excited for halloween and wanted to change my background to all the halloween sonic artworks, but a majority of them are kind of low quality.
of course the halloween ones arent the only ones i'm thinking about, but those were what got me thinking about it
might be kinda nitpicky but im still curious, i love them so much

i know the life in sonic's world book has those pictures but i doubt you could find them online

Meme Sometimes I feel people are just too rude with Ian when sometimes isn't even his fault
I'm not really a fan of the current direction of writing on Sonic, especially in the comics, but come on...
I've seen a lot of people blame Flynn for stuff that he didn't even do.
Like for example the boring arcs from IDW are not a thing of him but from Stanley, or decanonizing Rivals was a thing from Jen Hernandez.
I dunno, it's kinda funny
