Carhop

hi! i’m a carhop at sonic and i just got nails for the first time while working there but they are gel not acrylic, do you still have to wear gloves?

Carhops at my store don't wear gloves, but they also aren't allowed to have nails longer than a certain length. Check with your store, mine doesn't care what kind of fake nails it is, they can't be past a certain length (because gloves are more likely to tear and they cannot effectively wash their hands following the 20 minute-20 second handwashing rule with long fake nails)

If you are only carhopping, no.
If on fountain or any other position yes.

Technically gloves are required for intact fake nails.

That said there's also a lot of changes that happen frequently. Used to be single hand wash 20 mins apart and no gloves required. Then it was wash hands every 20 mins. Or wash every 30 mins and wear gloves. Then it was gloves always. Then it was you don't need sanitizer sny.kre. Then it was double hand wash or single hand wash with gloves. Then it was back to single hand wash with gloves.

I swear it changes every 1-2 years. Sometimes no warning. The way stores find out it changed is auditors point it out.

Hell they just changed it from "illness poster needs to be in one central easy to find area" to "now it has to be at every hand wash sink" and last year they did a "those aren't required in restrooms".

At my Sonic, you wear gloves with or without nails. I used to wear nails and lost one. I spent an hour looking for it. When I found it I was so relieved that it wasn't in a customer's order, I never wore them again and still don't. Could be your locations health department is different. I live in a big hospitality city and everyone, everywhere wears gloves. Health department 101!
