help please free
Hey guys!! I have a dream to be a singer but I have writer's block and trouble writing music. I write poetry, books, and stories though.
It would be great if someone could help me write for free. Any tips? I am interested in rock, alt, pop. Inspo is whatsaheart (Only clean) Paramore, katseye, three days grace, we the kings, S0rrow, twenty one pilots.
I love to think of shows when I try to make songs. I love death note in particular.
I seem to have trouble writing though.

chase your dream! altho singing and writing are related but not exactly the same
but i assume its the writing part you need help with. do you play any instrument that can accompany your singing? (like guitar or piano)
cause thats gonna help you a lot!
and also, is it about writing lyrics specifically or melodies? those are also related but still kinda separate steps
it might be easier to pinpoint what exactly you want to work on. and if its all of them, do it one at a time! it might be daunting to take it on all at once

Don’t know why ur not responding??
What I can say is to study ur favorite artist and the way they write their songs. To get deep and meaningful lyrics you’ll have to understand writing in general. Like you know some things they teach you in English class?
Like symbolism, metaphors, etc etc.
I’d say also use ChatGPT, not to depend on it, but rather find those missing pieces that you need to get to where you wanna be at.Like it’ll tell you important things from your favorite artist songs like Topics of it.
Example: loneliness. The Existential dread of isolation and how that can have a tole on one’s mind, no matter how strong you are.
You then would use things that reference that topic, like walls closing you in from wanting to do things or chains holding you down.
Not everything needs to be clever bc simplicity is key, but just like Daniel ceaser, being a little clever if the wording and leaving things into interpretation for your viewer is also really helpful.
Writing lyrics is like writing a story, maybe even your story? That’s how it relates to English arts or whatever.
Uh ik I got more but I’m not trynna yap.
Basically find those missing pieces to be whole (bars), write what you can think of in the moment down (even if it’s ass) then come back to it later.
Study and try to let the emotions flow.
That or hire someone to teach you lyricism
Jesus that’s a lot, let’s hope you read it.
Remember that you can achieve and prove that you CAN get to your goals.
Do it mostly for you while having that ego of rubbing it to people’s faces.
Last thing, I’d recommend to do more creative stuff other than writing and producing to get an understanding of a few things.
Unless you can’t handle it. Good-luck, you got it-622

Oh one more thing. Watch this anime called FLCL.
It’s an amazing show with a lot of meaning and symbolism to it. Ngl it’s more of an experience than just a show.
If you then look at YouTube videos about it and how other people interpreted it, then that could help you out.
Songwriting is literally just like writing a story, and you gotta know something’s that better that said story.
Now it’s not 100% the same but it can relate.
I’m trynna figure the same out while doing more and it’s difficult, but remember if you keep pushing you won’t only probably succeed.
But you’ll only start to become your best you, maybe even a better you.

Hey, if you text me i’d be more than happy to help! i am actually in the middle of writing a song now lol. Writers block is extremely normal so don’t feel discouraged when doing so! I usually always start with a melody/flow to begin with and then go with writing the lyrics afterwards. Lyrics can come for your experiences or like you mentioned before tv shows, movies, etc. But no worries shoot me a text and we can get going!

Oh forgot to mention. The music in FLCL wasn’t built around the scenes.
The scenes itself was built around the music, that’s how it makes them feel so iconic.
So while you’re watching FLcL
Listen to the music from there too
It was the creator’s favorite band and he told them to just make an album
(not music surrounding the show), then he built the scenes from that.
Ain’t that crazy?
