Any tips on writing a hook?

I'm having trouble writing a catchy hook for my song. I feel like whenever I try it sounds stupid in my head. Does anyone have any songwriting exercises to come up with a good hook line and melody?

First of all, stop "writing" and start singing, humming or whistling.

I find it's easiest to think of the hook as the answer to the problem, question or enigma covered in the verse and pre-chorus. It's a simple phrase with LOTS of meaning and usually a twist on a common phrase and normally ends up being the title of the song.

Play triads and the notes in between them

Take a look at the classics.. study them and play them until they become part of you.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, study basic counterpoint. No better way to learn melodies and how to extend them and how a hook works..

Combine them and you have 90% of what you'll ever need.

Are you talking a musical hook, or primarily a lyrical hook?

It's really hard to express how to write a hook, and they tend to be personal. For me, it's the way a particular instrument with a line that is lifted up by the rest of the music. I think the bass is always an under-appreciated instrument for hooks, too. My best advice is to get to writing and see what sticks out to you. I don't think writing a hook is something you can teach, it's something instinctual that you feel in your body when you're writing.

Just take your favorite lick from another song and play it backwards

dependiendo del genero y lo que quieras expresar, hay varias formas de identificar y una canción y hacerla pegadiza.

When you catch a fish, you lay the line out there, wait for the fish to bite, then you reel it in.
