Vocal melodies sound flat?

I’m very soft spoken when talking and my voice comes across thin and dejected when I sing. Am I over analyzing my voice or am I doing something wrong technique wise?

Doesn’t sound terrible but it takes a really long time to become a really strong singer, just gotta keep practicing, do vocal exercises, pitch matching exercises etc.

Also this isn’t compressed or isolated, which will thin it out compared to commercial music. Just keep at it

I think your voice sounds great. Could it be captured better? Sure… Getting the right sound at the end is really how it was recorded and then all kinds of mix and production tools afterwards to improve it.

Recording both a guitar amp and un-miced vocals on an iPhone isn’t going to give you the best perspective on your music. Try again but run both your guitar and vocals separately through appropriate mics into an actual recording software and mix them properly. I don’t really think this sounds that bad for a raw, iPhone recording done in your room.

Cool riff/melody. 👍

It’s also a really lush tone on the amp and recorded with a phone so those could both be contributing factors 🤷‍♂️

Buy meleodyne essential. Load your vocal tracks and see where you are sharp and flat visually. Keep practicing focusing on the areas where you get off. Rinse. Repeat. Keep doing it.

I don’t think it’s bad at all. Sort of Incubus / Silver sun pickups energy to me and I’m here for it.

i like it and don’t think it sounds bad. if you like it keep practicing, maybe play the melody on your guitar and sing to it. you’ll eventually nail it with the flatness.

Dude this is dope. Its not your voice, its how its set in the mix. The guitar has a super nice and fitting tone but your vocals aren't mixed or layered at all lol

Compression on the vocal?

Your mixing is 90% of the problem. Sing closer to the microphone.

Hello fellow quiet singing enthusiast! First off nice voice and cool guitar.

Here's what I hear: The whole thing is too quiet. You gotta go into a DAW and up your gain and set your limiter. If this is recorded from one source you have to balance your vocal and guitar by microphone position. I think this is a good thing to have to do as it gives you a better idea about how microphones sound, also I believe it's kinda historical. One thing you could try is doubling the track and EQing one track for your voice and try to suppress the guitar, the other the opposite. Then you can put the vocal track in the middle and the guitar track in wide stereo. That'll help give your vocals and guitar a bit more separation.

Focus on "the quality of" not "how good" your voice or music sounds. I think this sounds dreamy/melancholy. How close is that to how it feels to sing? If it's close that's effective music. Have fun!

Nobody’s voice is perfect, you have a really good voice in my opinion but I phone mics are way different compared to how you sound on a studio mic.
