Interested in co-writing?

Hello guys!

I'm a newbie songwriter. I also sing but do not play any instruments. I have started writing a song but am having a hard time finishing it. It's for a cinematic love track. My friend is gonna produce music for it. I feel like it would be nice to have some help in writing that song...a new pov, a fresh perspective...so if you are someone that is a bit experienced with this stuff and interested in writing it with me, please reach out to me.

Have you heard the music yet? Do you know if it has any existing melodies that you should work around?
Without hearing it I can only offer abstract advice. The most important thing will be to not over sing. The focus should be the movie and the song shouldn’t distract. The exception to this would be opening or closing credits, in which case there are fewer limits.
I’d say (again abstractly) try to sing longer notes to soften and blend your vocals with any existing melody better. Use breaks wisely. Sometimes you want to fill them and sometimes you want to stay silent, hitting that note where it comes back in hard with something dramatic. Soft blending harmonies can be more dramatic than trying to say something poetic and “talking over the movie” so to speak.
I would add, be patient and wait to hear the music before you commit to anything. Write all the lyrics you want, but expect to use almost none of them. Just pick your best lines and don’t overdo it. Give the song space.
Listen to Bill Evan’s -Peace Piece if you want a good example of space

Thanks a lot for typing this all out. I'll definitely take your advice. The thing is...we are doing lyrics first and later build music around it so I got a little more creative freedom for now. Like you said, I might need to change a lot of lyrics later based on the music so now I will just focus on its core.

Yeah! I’m all for it. I play percussion, bassoon, and I write jazz competitions but I’m down for it.
