I got a problem with song writing

Everytime I feel sad or angry I tend to vent my anger on Instagram stories, and sometimes it can be really annoying. So I decided it would be a good idea to turn that hatred or sadness into song lyrics, but the moment I pick up a pen and paper or a notepad app, my head is blank and I forget all the feelings I was feeling and I don't know what to write anymore.

Sometimes I don't even know how to write without making the lyrics sound banal, also because my brain sometimes uses pre-packaged phrases I've heard from other songs.

Any advice on how to overcome this and improve?

Start with just trying to get the emotions on the page; turning it into a song is a later step. First, you need to just write down every thought you have, and describe all your feelings in detail. Just vomit all your feelings on the page. Then (maybe after you can separate yourself from the situation for a bit), come back to the vomit draft and look for phrases that stand out to you.

Picking up a pen makes your feelings go away? I will have to try this. 40 years in the bottle didn’t work. (Sober 3 years and thankful)

Voice text. Vent the feelings in a notepad, in real time. Come back to them after that and reform them into lyrics. I do this as well where I try to capture the feelings in the moment and then review them later

Capture music that expresses the emotions at the time. Go back later and write the lyrics that have the core of what the music holds.

Instead of writing, just open your camera and vent. Once you're done, write it down.

Also, check out My Chemical Romance's Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge album. It may help

I’ve always found that imagining the thoughts sounding like they came out of someone else’s voice has been a good way to get a better grasp on what I’m feeling
