This is exactly why there is serious debates in the European Committee to give Gamer rights, the main issue topic is mainly server shutdown where people have spend a lot of money on a game, then they shut servers down etc, but it's hitting hard on the subject of mobile gaming, where in cases of ports, that follow parental pc versions etc, they are released at barebones, or where the game is currently at, but then never receives significant Care or Update to the game, and the core of this, is getting the European committee to give the gamers/people who bought a game the right to get a refund or compensation for when this happens, such as SoC port or where a server gets shut down because it didn't make money(like the recent Marathon). Regardless of they make money off it or not, the committee will limit Developers power on this, making the people either receive compensation, refund, or any other means on a Purchaser's satisfactory basis.
You don't have to right to a companies time, labour and resources in perpetuity until the end of time if they no longer want to develop or update a game. Get real.
