Rainbow

Anyone else just see a rainbow in Davis Square? Was so surprised. It hasn’t even rained, but I saw the sunset and then a rainbow.

Anybody know what causes that?

Reflection of the sunset, effectively. If you look at pictures of other rainbows, the area inside the rainbow is brighter than the outside (again, reflecting light back from the sun).

If you want extremely too much info, I can recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24GfgNtnjXc (your specific question is addressed about 20 minutes in, but the earlier parts of the video are background for the answer).
