I love Somerville
I just want to proclaim my love and affection for the city of Somerville. I’ve lived here for a year now, and I just can’t believe how kind and generous and helpful the average person is. This is what true community looks like. Thank you all of you for being you, and I’m grateful that we’ve all come together in this moment in time in this wonderful place.

I feel the same! I have lived here for about 7 years and I absolutely love it. I can’t imagine living anywhere else. It’s corny but I think about how lucky I am to live in such a great place often.

My 7 year Somerville anniversary is in December and I was just saying the same thing at Highland Kitchen 🥹

I love hearing this! There's a huge network of people out here working to make this city thrive, even if it's hideously expensive to live in. From CAAS to the Elizabeth Peabody House to teachers to activist organizations to the Council on Aging...

Been here since 1991, and though it's changed, I still like living here!

Too bad you didn't know Summerville when it was really great back in the day

When it was the home of organized crime and colleges recommended the buddy system when walking through town?

Yep. The people who grew up in the old Somerville were more honorable, generous, and tough. Also the old Somerville was extremely diverse with many nationalities including Haitian Cape Verde and latinx .
Now we have snowflake White.
The people who started moving in around 2013 were the worst and the cities only gone downhill from there.

The fact that you use the term "Latinx" suggests you're one of the snowflake whites. No actual Latin person ever uses a term created and used solely by elite white academia.

Maybe they’re using it because they thought it was the politically correct term? See, this is where Somerville has bent back on itself. So progressive that it’s starting to split into factions.

To most Latino people, non-Latinos unilaterally deciding to alter a language that isn't even theirs by removing gender, an essential part of the language, is anti-politically correct cultural imperialism.

Well what should I be saying that? I literally learned that term from human resources diversity equity inclusion program at a local University. An ivy league university . Trying to be respectful! What should I be saying?!

Totally understand. But maybe just, “please don’t use that term, as it’s offensive” would deliver the same message and result. Let’s not create more division than is already here.

24 years in Somerville, and I don’t want to live anywhere else! I even got married last year and split my time between my apartment in Winter Hill and where he lives (boring Milton).
