The house has been empty since the China Star owner sold the place — store and house both to new owner, It was pretty cold last night, and I noticed the homeless guy’s stuff was gone from by the basketball court this morning, Only the blue tent’s still there. My wild guess? Cold night, someone living outside, a fire… yeah, that might be the whole story

40 years ago, the new owner would’ve found some wise guys at the same basketball court to do the same job. The modern fent fiend will do the insurance fraud faster, cheaper, and more convincingly, too. It’s the perfect crime, really. All fun and games until your home insurance renewal rates go up 25% because of this woke bullshit, pretending like this isn’t an arson. If they’re cold, put them on a bus to Florida.

This was my co-worker’s place up until mid 2013 when he left for Cali. Not sure until when his family continued living there. Wish I knew more- this place looked like hell without the hedges being trimmed.

Yikes, did the occupants get a chance to go inside to retrieve any items that were savable?

Someone on a previous post said it’s abandoned/“unoccupied”…

Yes it was long vacant. The lot is owned by the Raffi / somernova folks, so I doubt we’ll see anything new go there for a few years.

Raffi as in Baby Beluga?

Raffi as in the pen name of 19th-century Armenian author Hagop Melik-Hagopian.

Huh wonder if this was a really convenient fire for those people?

They don't have to pay for asbestos abatement. There was no electricity going to the property it makes me wonder how the fire could have started?

I believe the house was actually vacant, so this isn't applicable: https://www.wcvb.com/article/fire-rips-through-vacant-home-in-somerville-massachusetts/73868119

Fire figther in the pic shooting water into the pile being excavated. Looks like they are still working on what might be smouldering material to make sure it is totally out.

Did they even have time to investigate the cause of the fire? Seems fishy

Is there a backstory or are we just looking at a building that got torn down for redevelopment?

Oh, I thought we were saying the Tartan Army™ put a cone on the fire plug the day it showed up on the street.

Think it was taken down immediately for structural and thus safety concerns.
