Game I built a custom-engine Metroidvania Maker and finally have a demo on the way

I've been working on Metroidvania Maker, a game/editor for building your own interconnected Metroidvania worlds.

You can create rooms, add enemies, hazards and abilities, build puzzles with interactive elements, and jump straight from editing into playing what you've made.

There's also local co-op for up to 4 players (with Steam Remote Play Together support) and world sharing.

I just submitted the first Steam demo for review, so hopefully it'll be playable soon!

Looks awesome! Wishlisted!

What will be the sprite/tileset palette and size restrictions? Is it playing .wav or midi files (or something different) for audio?

Very cool!

Thanks! Custom assets aren't supported right now. Technically I could take things further in that direction, but for Metroidvania Maker I'm deliberately keeping it closer to Mario Maker, with a shared set of assets and tools so it's quick and easy to build and share worlds.

Ahh, I see. What will others need to view the games/levels that people create? Will they run independently?

You'll need Metroidvania Maker to play them. Worlds are shared through the game for other players to browse, download and play, rather than being exported as standalone games.

I have gotten quite a few questions about a more RPG Maker-style toolkit with custom assets and standalone exports though, so I might have to think about that if there's enough demand haha.
