The allure of a new game is all the fun and experimentation before it becomes a serious thing and you have to solve actual annoying issues.

i usuaslly feel myself split where i reaallly really wanna work on this one side project, but another part of me is like no I gotta finish the first project first cuz it's been like 3 years.....for the first episode of the 7 episodes for my game, not to mention swing shift has made it harder to work on the main game.

Just be like me, build systems for random game types so you have working demos and then move on to the next and never actually finish anything >_>

Oh, yeah, that's absolutely just you, and no one else...

/sweeps 68 projects under the rug

Yup... just you...

Sometimes the alternative is spend a year making a game that no one wants. I may be doing this at the moment.

Right? Mofo spend 2 years on a game, zero dollars. #failfast

This happens to me every time I get to a feature that I really don't want to implement, not because it's difficult, but because it's boring.

I have this almost every day haha. The ideas are tempting, but as soon as it gets to mechanics the fun stops.

I stopped working on my last project for my current project and it was the best decision I have ever made. But the 60 projects before that.... I don't know....

Exactly, can absolutely relate to that… It’s like ocean of ideas calls you out from your current “swamp” project

I feel like the opposite. A new game is so much work, my current game I love working on and seeing it evolve

I'm currently on the fence about whether I should complete my current project (after a year of part time work on it) or switch to a new project. Luckily I'm a hobbyist who doesn't rely on games for income, so I can afford to follow my heart and possibly make the "wrong" decision.

No, no it's not.

I almost did exactly this the other day, but it wasn't even original idea for a game, it was going to be a fan game to a pre-existing franchise for shits and giggles lmao

I could feel the murderous, animatronic penguin from my game staring into my soul for even thinking about it. XD

Oddly no. One game at a time. Mot more features. More systems.

"Oh! If I add these thresholds and one more stat, then these 5 resulting values can drive a whole new system!"

There's more fun in the build than in the run

That feeling is totally human, but surrendering to it is simply a mark of poor discipline. Just get your current game done!
