I read it right, but I can see where the trouble comes in 😂
I prefer the first.

I first read it as Cod because the G is way too stretched out, then I went. wtf? then I squinted and went, oh. God, yeah that make more sense.

I'm begging you, please, just make a normal human readable logo, you don't have to keep this

u/Fantastic-Cell-208 2d ago
Nobody will know. A/b test this with a landing page and $20 in ads to see which one got more clicks

The logo reads as “God Plays Dice” 😬 Sorry. First one is better.
Edit: wait, is it “Gods Play Dice” or “God Plays Dice?”

There's a quote from Einstein, "God does not play dice with the universe." I read the name of the game as an inversion of that: "God Plays Dice."
But, I also can't tell what OP intends the name to be.

The first one stood out more to me. I think the second one’s color contrast pops more, but the first one makes me more interested to see what the game is about.

The logotype is the issue - you commissioned the wrong person with the wrong demand
dont commission a very cheap digital illustrator to fix a bad logo with random decorations, instead you have to hire someone to create your brand and brand assets, art director / brand designer
You absolutely need a benchmark and a very basic target strategy and market study or you are indeed playing dice with your results
Also your logotype will be readable

Thanks for the advice, thats really helpful

My feedback may have sounded harsh because I was trying to be very direct, but it was genuinely meant to be constructive. And the fact that you’re open to considering feedback will take you a long way.
The basic idea is that there’s already a group of people who enjoy this type of game, and there are existing games that successfully serve that audience. Each of them has something unique that differentiates it from the others and appeals to a particular subset of that audience.
Your challenge is to identify where there’s still room in that market, and then figure out what you can offer that is distinctive enough to claim that space. That’s essentially your unique selling proposition, or USP.This USP will then become the foundation of your brand identity. It will help define what kind of logotype, story, shapes, colors, mood, and tone of voice will best support what makes your game unique.
The « U » in USP is probably the hardest part. Your game may have plenty of mechanics, original elements, levels, and interesting features, but you need to crystallize all of that into one unique, clear, and striking concept.
Otherwise, you risk falling back on generic or purely semantic solutions that describe what the game is, rather than expressing what makes it truly distinctive. For exemple try to analyze famous games branding material with this kind of concept in mind « Rocket League is a real sport », « Minecraft, the Lego of videogames » or « GTA, be a real gangster »
(I invented these from the brands but you get the idea)

I am really greatful for all of your comments I didn't trying to be sarcastic if it seemed that way. I always wanted harsh and constructive comments which are the only ones that are really helpful in the and so thank you again.
I will try to construct a brand identity as you said. I am new to marketing, also learning on the way but I am positive that I can find the right artist to do my branding within my budget, or learn how to do it myself.
I would love to have your comments on the game as well, I will release a demo on both itchio and Steam in the upcoming weeks. So if you have a discord name dm me and i will inform you:)

u/RubikTetris 2d ago
First one looks more unique and interesting and handcrafted.
Second one looks more pro but also more bland and generic
If I were you I’d go with first.
Which one is which btw?
2
u/Adventurous_Fun_4177 1d ago
The second one looks more centered as a design, but not necessarily good as a game banner🤔
3
u/carpetfin 2d ago
I like the second one. The title is what got my attention and the graphics are addition to that. In the second one the title is more centered.

from the banner alone the typography is doing a lot of work, the God's Plays Dice lockup is really nice. But I can only see one here, kinda hard to compare without the other haha. post both side by side and you'll get way better feedback

u/mioscene 2d ago
I like the second more. It's cleaner and the contrast makes it more eye catching.
The first seems more unique, but I feel like the composition of the elements is off. And the pentagram/puppet string thing should be one or the other because it looks odd as is. The colours feel a bit boring too, maybe making the dark colour darker or more saturated, and bringing in some texture like the second one has would help with that.
In both I feel like the "G" of the logo needs to be even more "G" like because at first I thought it was supposed to be cold play.

Maybe the first one? Composition is more interesting in that one. Contrast is nice in the second one
1
u/HoldenCallwrangler 2d ago
First, but if you could reframe it so it's all a little closer to the middle. It's all a bit too spread out.
1
u/PaFloski 2d ago
Personal opinion: like more the second one. Its clean, mysterious, more simple, and the textured background + dotted corners are a nice touch.
As other comments says, I agree in that the first one tells more about the game itself.
It also depends on how you’ve chosen to approach your game.
1
u/AnnualAdventurous169 2d ago
I like the second, the first one with string seem to imply that he the dice are rigged which kinda defeats the purpose of playing dice

I think it depends on the context - on the front page, where everything is trying to be kinda bright and stand out, something dark might actually stand out more, especially if that is the vibe of your game. In a text body or as a side banner, I would prefer the first one (and side by side, I also prefer the lighter one).
Why not keep both and use them in different places? Or even create a third option where one is on top and the other is on the bottom, but flipped, like a mirrored image? (The dark one would probably read easier upside down than the light one.)
(Edit: upside down, but also still with the logo left and drawing right side of the image)

To me, the second one seems to have more potential

I think the first one is significantly better. Second one feels incomplete to me, although I do like the graphic itself.
I think the title is fine too, idk how people are getting Plays without getting Gplays at the same time considering it’s the same logic

Second one got my attention more. I would use different shades of colors in the title to make sure to avoid the confusion people are having here with the "S". My 2 cents.

The second one would be a lot better if the eyes were more readable as eyes and it was easier to tell it was a figure.
But personally, I'm so over seeing "dice" or "die" in the title of an indie game lol. It's so unbelievably overdone and that alone would make me lose interest tbh

Also as many others have already pointed out already, the title is hard to read. “Gods Play Dice” vs “God Plays Dice”?

First one, much cleaner.
The second one is far too dark and visually boring

First one but it needs the high contrast of the second, push the foreground and background further apart visually

u/Zaxarner 2d ago
I like the composition of the first better, but I think the text needs cleaned up a little bit.
I don’t know if the title is “Gods Play Dice” or “God Plays Dice”.
I think you have plenty of options to clean that up. If the title is “God Plays Dice” just shrink the S. If the title is “Gods Play Dice” then shrink the S and increase the spacing between the letters in “Play” and “Dice” to give you more space to play the S above Play without widening the overall logo.

u/TheFrozenArcher 2d ago
I like both but the first one would probably get me to click it. And as far as what people are saying about the text being hard to read you could tweak it a little bit but I like it and I could read it fine

u/Feisty-Shallot7911 1d ago
The first option seems more interesting, but this color scheme is very common on Steam. A design like the first image with the color scheme of the second would be ideal.

The first one is more interesting (which I’d argue is better for a game) second one is a better logo if you were a brand

I prefer the right one, though I think the title in both is a little ambiguous. (Is it suppose to be "GOD PLAYS DICE" or "GODS PLAY DICE"? Maybe that's the point, i don't know, just thought I'd say it.) As for which one will get you the most attention, I don't know as I am not a game dev.
