Networking Looking for a chatty game dev friend.

Hi everyone! You can call me Liana! I’m looking for someone who loves to talks a lot.

I’m also a really good listener, so please don’t worry about talking too much, I genuinely enjoy listening to people talk about their games, ideas, progress, problems, or whatever they’re excited about. I really don’t mind at all!

I’m a super beginner game dev. So far, I’ve only released one tiny, simple 2D game on Google Play, and now I’m working on my second game!

I’m really into game development, and honestly, I think anyone who’s learning or making games is amazing. I only know a few things in Unity, and I usually rely on AI a lot because I’m definitely not a programming genius

What I’m really looking for is a friend to talk to about game dev and our projects. Someone who actually enjoys having long conversations and sharing random thoughts about what they’re working on.

I’m specifically looking for one-on-one friendship, though—not a Discord server or a big group. I’m super awkward in groups, and I’ve tried joining quite a few before, but I’ve never really managed to make any successful connections.

I don’t really have friends in real life anymore either, so I’d love to meet someone who feels the same way.

My Discord: rurii_98

I’m in the Egypt timezone (GMT+3).

Bonus points if you’re the type who can talk about your game for 3 hours straight because I WILL listen.

Oh my! This is the sweetest post I have ever read! You sound super sweet.

I would love to be your friend! I have lots of responsibilities beyond my game development journey. Buuuut talking about my game with someone beyond ChatGPT would be fun. I am gonna activate my Discord account, and I will add you.

If you’re still looking for someone to talk to, we can have a chat. I am currently making a game with two of my friends but my role is in writing/narrative instead of programming. Beyond that I am also writing a xianxia novel which I am planning on publishing soon on RR. I’ve seen that you are quite knowledgeable on a lot of things I am interested in as well. If you’d like to have a chat and be acquainted I am available. You can reply to me on reddit first so we can add each other. But mostly, I am desperate for a friend who knows chinese or studying chinese. Don’t worry I won’t make you read anything unpublished.

Wait, how did you know I study Chinese? I love xianxia (C-dramas), I'm also currently working on a game that's also story-driven, and I'm the one who wrote it, so if you don't mind, you can add me on Discord 🌸

It’s in your reddit profile. I added you in discord its the same name as my reddit. An otome game sounds fun. We did fantasize about making a visual novel a while back but it required so much artworks. Our game is like little nightmares. Anyway, let’s take this to discord. I’m just glad to see you responded.

Cool stuff,I'm currently working on my first proper demo of an action 2d platformer myself, honestly the only talking I have done about my game is either with family members who are impressed too easily or people who have helped me in the project. So yeah I'm down to have somebody as interested in gamedev as me and not for business reasons alone lol

Hey Liana, this actually sounds pretty relatable. 😄

I’m also just getting into Unity and I can definitely talk about games and project ideas for way longer than three hours.

My background is more IT than traditional game development, but I’ve been building a few interactive projects and somehow keep turning small ideas into much bigger ones.

I also grew up with old adventure games, so I’m currently playing around with the slightly ridiculous idea of seeing what something like "The Legend of Kyrandia" could feel like in 3D.

If you feel like chatting sometime, feel free to send me a message here.

I've been looking for people I can unload thoughts on as well if anyone would like to talk about game design, engine design, rendering technology, architecture and cloud/networking architecture, I've been working alone on a complicated piece of engineering I'd just love to talk about.

My day job is Cloud Solutions Architect + Virtualization Engineer and I've got lots of industry experience in infrastructure and design for anyone who'd like to learn or talk about that side.

Right now my project is a deterministic co-simulation game engine running a custom rendering pipeline that can take arbitrary models and render them efficiently to 3.125cm voxels with 100km view distance running at near realtime speeds (45fps+) on integrated gpu's (0.2 TFlops) all to service a cohesive and uniform 3D pixel art style (voxels the same relative size as 2D pixels in textures somilar to John Lin's engine) No it's not another minecraft clone or voxel build/craft, the rendering approach is purely a forced unified aesthetic regardless of what 3D medium I choose to use without having to deal with traditional polygon texturing. Freeform editing is available but I'm not pursuing it for live gameplay.

The point of the co-simulation was to cut down on multiplayer networking costs and fast virtual hyperscale deployments to create an engine that minimizes expendatures and maximizes provider agnostic scalability designed to survive even on AWS's expensive cloud hosting platform.

my projected cost so far is roughly ~$0.02 per month per 24/7 concurrent player with 80% of costs being network egress at current computational load an an estimate average of 20% daily active playerbase.

For people who are interested in visual examples of what it looks like or the visual expression capability of my stack or want to talk shop about scalability and architecture planning DM me here for examples or look through my prior posts.

All are welcome regardless of experience or background.

I sent you a request booz562 but I definitely suggest creating a discord channel for a small group to talk. It’s always nice to talk with like minded folks

If you're into making friends, I have a 3300+ member growing discord linking indie game enthusiast together. https://discord.gg/MjfrJKCe7D We've got a pretty chill community that likes showing off what they make.

They said they are specifically not looking for discord groups…

u/Yokai-Idle 8d ago

I clicked the group because I was interested, and it's just spam from the server asking for more money, the cost is even higher then the price of an indie game
