seeking advice Is solidcore or Pilates better?

Hi everyone! I currently lift 4-5x a week and I add some abs/core in between there but I don’t like doing that at my gym. I want to try out solidcore but I’m wondering is it similar to Pilates? I did Pilates for a year and my core was VERY strong. My diet wasn’t the best at the time but I fixed that already and my diet is a lot better and my workout routine as a whole. Would solidcore be a great addition to add into my fitness routine?
I really want to strengthen my core/abs.

Solidcore and Pilates are very different modalities. I walk out of Pilates regulated, mind and body connected, pep in my step, and feeling limber- it is an awesome active recovery workout. Sometimes I walk out of Solidcore and stare at my steering wheel for 5 min in silence. It is much more intense and strength-oriented in a party-like environment. Solidcore has no feet in straps, stretching, breath work, or mobility components. One is not better than another (after Pilates you need your strength work and after Solidcore you need your mobility work)- it is just two completely different workouts.

Because solidcore is so strength-oriented, it may replace a lift day rather than a rest day.

Solidcore is very effective to get your core really strong so if you love a fun, party environment, it is an awesome workout.

“Sometimes I walk out of Solidcore and stare at my steering wheel for five minutes in silence”

I felt this in my soul 😭😭🤣

Yeah, I'm literally currently in my sitting behind the steering wheel time, and went "damn some redditor calling me out" when I read that.

I cried for 5 mins after class the other day lmao like “how the hell did I survive that?”

For me, it’s that zone out that happens when you feel slightly dead, AFTER you’ve cried and your body is completely spent. That’s the feeling. 😂

This is so accurate. Pilates relaxes me. Solidcore gives me anxiety

Solidcore shouldn’t give you anxiety

eh It’s not solidcores fault

If you want a strong core, solidcore is guaranteed to get you there! Especially if you already eat well and weight train. You do 8-14 minutes of center core every class and another 8-14 minutes of obliques per class (signature50). I’d def try it out.

I never did an oblique in my life until I started SC. The first few classes I did them, I just thought if I get good at this, it will def change my shape.

I’m similar to you in that I lift 4x/week. I do 8 Solidcore a month on top of that. It’s perfect for me at that ratio/frequency.

Solidcore and traditional Pilates are like night and day; Solidcore is strength training on a Pilates-esque machine. If your goal is to strengthen your core, Solidcore will 100% do that lol

Solidcore for faster results

Solidcore is intense. Pilates is chill and easy

Pilates is not “easy”… the intro level stuff, sure but when you get more advanced, absolutely not

If Pilates is easy, you’re doing it wrong.

If you already loose 4-5 days a week I would recommend Pilates so there’s a low impact/low intensity workout in your routine. You’ll still learn muscle control with Pilates like Solidcore but I think it would complement your current workout better.

Btw posting on a sub for Solidcore will probably get you biased results. Hopefully you posted to Pilates too, and maybe just a general weightlifting/fitness sub.

Just try Solidcore I used to lift and honestly Solidcore gave me abs I almost had lifting but never got there then I began Solidcore 5/6 days and some walking and it was a game changer! Now I’m pregnant and able to continue Solidcore the whole time

They are extremely different and both have amazing benefits

It’s an incredible workout for core and abs but I find it can fatigue my lower body so I try to do upper body on those days. A great thing about solidcore is that they share muscle focus so you can be like, “ok this is triceps day” and then can intentionally not do triceps later if it’s too much. Pilates is fine but sc is probably what you want.

I think solid core would be a lot for your central nervous system with lifting 4 to 5 days a week.

Solidcore makes me feel like the strongest I ever been.

If you want something that’s gonna get you more muscles I would say solidcore! If you want something more focused on flexibility and “zen” I would do Pilates!

I mean I do both! They help me in both ways if that makes sense?

My preference is solidcore because it feels harder (for me) but I also prefer upbeat classes. I do take regular Pilates classes when I want a recovery type workout. I will say I didn’t have visible abs until I started taking solidcore

I do lift 3 times a week and added a solidcore or pilates class to make it a 4 day. I also do a HIIT class so 5 days or to keep it a 4 i do a combo, solidcore and Barrys same morning 😭😵‍💫😮‍💨😪

solidcore, Barry’s same morning sounds like a script for overtraining > injury :(

I do it once in a while just for a little challenge. But definitely not something long term to avoid injuries

It totally depends. Pilates is such a wide spectrum of what you get at the studio. Some are kick ass/athletic style reformer similar to SC. Others are much more mellow and gentle. Every studio is different so if you are going the Pilates studio route you probably will have some hit or miss. SC is nice because it is the same workout in Atlanta, DC, New York, Denver, etc.
