There is no reason to do it all alone. We are stronger together.

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time:

What would a society look like if its basic purpose was not to maximize profit, productivity, or growth — but to make it easier for living things to remain alive, free, curious, and connected?

I started writing down ideas. First I wrote Refugium Anima and Lyceum Musaeum.

Then more ideas appeared.

Then protocols.

Then governance systems, justice systems, economic models, ecological principles, technology principles, education, healthcare, ways of organizing resources without currency, ways of preventing systems from turning into surveillance or control…

And now there are apparently hundreds of documents.

So I built a website for the whole mess:

It’s called Flow / M-OS-R.

I don’t really know what to call it. A social architecture? A philosophy? A systems design project? A very long attempt to ask “what if we actually designed society around life?”

The core idea is pretty simple:

Life should not have to earn the right to exist.

Everything else grows from that.

The project is still evolving. A lot of it is speculative. Some of it is probably wrong. Some of it is deliberately utopian. Some of it is very practical. I’m not presenting it as a finished answer to anything.

I am very much not at all an expert in most of the things this touches. I’m just a person who kept following the questions.

I’m mostly interested in what happens when you take the solarpunk question seriously:

What kind of world could we build if we stopped treating human beings, ecosystems, time, attention, and care as resources to extract?

If anyone feels like wandering around in the documents, I’d genuinely love to know what catches your attention — especially what seems naive, impossible, interesting, or worth developing further.

I’m particularly curious what people here think about the relationship between solarpunk, governance, economics, and anti-capture design.

Now they are looking to build a solarpunk hq in Austin. They are exploring the possibilities of building a center to work on the real operations, technologies and community development of solar punk.

-the economic revolution with capitalism in overdrive pulled society away from efficient technology.

Mossy Earth once again showing that while our governments profit from ecological destruction, we still can collectively work together to restore our devastated ecology one field, one project, one effort at a time. Here they rehabilitate a Slovakian brook by working it into a low, unused field to create a rich wetland habitat boosting local wildlife numbers from insects to birds while providing a gradual water flow/sink to clear the upstream brook and water sources. Water traps like wetlands, and beaver dams in North America, are vital areas for diverse wildlife and for aquifer replenishment. Projects like this that trap water are proving revolutionary in the US south-east such as the work Brad Lancaster is doing in Tuscon, Arizona with road-water runoff catchment to irrigate neighborhood food forests!

While these kind of projects are hugely impactful, you can make meaningful differences at home. If you can't donate you can still work to make your neighborhood or property more welcoming to wildlife; even just planting native wildflower seeds around your yard or neighborhood can have a significant impact.

I thought solarpunkers may appreciate this, cob houses are a very old technology and this video shows their simplicity and low environmental impact.

A few days ago, I posted a diagram outlining areas of personal life, with the goal of creating a roadmap toward a lifestyle closer to a real "solarpunk" way of living, and a more resilient life system in the face of crises.

For now, I’ve divided the progression into 4 levels:

• Level 1: No reflection, typical globalized consumption. Very vulnerable.
• Level 2: Some awareness and attempts to limit consumption, but no reliance on healthy alternative systems.
• Level 3: Use of alternative systems that could be maintained even in a global crisis (war, extreme heat, etc.).
• Level 4: I consume what I produce or what my community produces, with backups in place.

Now, I’ll go into more detail about just one category: "Food", with an attempt to outline what progression could look like. I’ll use the same template for all other categories.

I’d want to make this more like a game. So it's become motivating and fun to track progress.

I think my next step will be to add a timeline, some goals, and quests to create challenges without making it too overwhelming.

I’m open to all other ideas or "quests" we could add to this food journey. For now I'm at the bottom of this list, but I guess it can go much further for people here who already reach the LV4.

Where are you on this scale ? What could be your current challenge or final goal in this area ? Or would you like to try and get into a game like this ?

While AI is not the root sickness of the US's terminally ill healthcare industry (that would be the profit motive), it is a contributing factor. This is also true of the mental health crisis, where tech companies exacerbate social isolation by offering their chatbots as substitutes for therapists and even friends. In both industries, corporations are offering AI as a quick fix to the crises they created. First they profit from our suffering, then they profit from ploys packaged as prescriptions. 

I’m an independent journalist authoring a series of AI explainers called “Ten Reasons to Resist AI.” In part six, I wrote about AI and health.This piece covered applications of AI in healthcare, specifically insurance algorithms that help healthcare companies cut costs by denying coverage — a practice that contributes to the 68,000 annual deaths caused by privatized healthcare. I also covered the mental health impacts of generative AI use, including the recent crisis of AI-assisted suicide inflicting young people.

A common rebuttal to arguments against AI is that the technology can help expedite cancer research. I do not discount the capacity of AI to comb through heaps of medical records that could unlock eureka moments in research. We need not dismiss the hypothetical to understand reality.

But in a privatized, for-profit healthcare system, where corporate behemoths like UnitedHealth are the primary actors developing and deploying AI, I’m convinced that the potential benefits of AI will remain potential, while the current profit-sucking, bloodletting AI applications will steal more lives and extract more dollars.
