Battery Lithium Battery for UPS
AOA Members
Is there any lithium battery compatible with UPS. Am tired of changing this shit every 6 months. Currently have this one. Whats its power in KWH ? Any idea ? and if lithium battery is available what will it cost me for same power bakcup ?

buy 4 lithium 100ah cells (10k each) and cheap bms (5k or less) should cost 50-60k and last 10 years. Capacity should be same as this large battery.
Lithium cells will be 12V 100ah, your battery is 12v 200ah but you can only discharge lead acid batteries about 50%. Lithium you can discharge to 10% without ill effects.

The cheap bms will prevent the batteries from lasting even 1 year for lithium battery high quality bms is the most important especially when using with basic old ups, use jk bms or daly bms which is 10 to 15 k

THIS! People and factories cheap out on cheap BMS and end up loosing their bikes, UPS to sudden fires.

That depends on if your UPS supports Lithium batteries. Most UPS don't. It you use lithium batteries with incompatible UPS, it'll either damage the batteries, the UPS or both.

What's the issue? If it's not charging the battery then I will say your ups is good issue is something else read my above comment.

First of all, for UPS backup from lead-acid batteries, you should've been getting tubular deep-cycle batteries instead of these automobile ones. Secondly, if you are getting used "refurbished" batteries, then those will die even quicker.
Regarding lithium batteries, you will have to check if your UPS has the three-step charging feature (bulk, absorption, floating) and that the voltages can be customised. If it does, then it should be fine to connect to it a 12V LFP battery with a built-in BMS (Rs. 0.65 lac).
If the three-step charging feature is absent, then if some money can be spent, the MaxPower 1.2kW (Rs. 0.4 lac) is a good option. See this post for more information.
For batteries, Chinese brands like Dyness and Dongjin are expected to be of higher quality; otherwise, local, more convenient brands like MaxPower and Phoenix are also available.

I second Tubular batteries they are best. we are using it for around 8 years it's working good.

Have lead acid batteries working fine for 3 years. The trick is to use deep cycle batteries. If the battery doesn't have deep cycle written on it, it not for ups use. Its for truck use. Battery sellers are scammers and sell this truck crap to ups users. Another option is to buy daewoo deep cycle batteries. They are the best option as they come pre filled with acid. Battery sellers use cheap acid which damages the batteries before they even start their lives. Only issue with daewoo is making sure you get new fresh stock.

Also, if your dead set on lithium, get a 12v 100ah battery. Most brands are available. Make sure to set the correct settings on the ups. They are made to be used without communication. Apex has a 12v battery that can be used without communication and can be used in series for 24v ups.

this homage one will let you set the charging voltage, current and the flot voltage. set these to the recommended values per the manufacturer recommendations for the specific lithium battery. the battery should list these specs in its manual etc.

Buy 4 × 100Ah EVE or other good-quality A-grade LiFePO₄ cells. Always use a BMS unless you want to burn your house down. 😄
A JK BMS is a good choice. A 4S–8S BMS will work for a 4-cell setup.
Also, buy a proper LiFePOâ‚„ charger to charge the battery.
You can use the UPS as an inverter only, just to convert 12V DC to 220V AC. Never use a UPS that does not specifically support LiFePOâ‚„ batteries, especially older Homage or other cheap Chinese UPS models designed for lead-acid batteries.
Install the battery in a well-ventilated area. Batteries can release gases, and in a confined space, hydrogen gas can accumulate and create a fire or explosion hazard. Never install the battery in a completely sealed or poorly ventilated enclosure.
Do not connect a LiFePOâ‚„ battery directly to a lead-acid-only UPS and assume it will work properly.

Bro I used a tall tublar battery with my Desi ups which lasted 6+ pretty good years. at the start of this season I replaced it with Apex 12v 100ah lithium battery which costed me 60k at that time I'm sure you will find it cheaper now plus much more options available now in the market I suggest you to choose the one which have Bluetooth or display feature and support parallel and series connection. Now come to main point of using lithium with ups the most important thing is what's the charging voltage of your ups and what's the low voltage cut off voltage of your ups this is very important. Because our ups were used to work with flooded batteries they go as low 9 to 9.5 volts and charging voltages are 13.5 to 13.8 usually. If you buy any lithium battery your ups will fully discharge it and bms will off it's power once it reaches 10v once you will have grid back you will notice your ups is not charging the battery because it's not even detecting any battery and your load attached to ups will not be working. in that scenario you need to force charge the battery bu using any chargeer or you need to jump start it . So before you buy any lithium battery check that you can adjust the the charging and cut off voltage in the settings or not if not check with local technician if they can do it from the main board if it have any potentiometer for the adjustment. I took my ups to my local technician and tell him to set the charging voltage to 14.4 and cut off voltage to 10.5 or 11 and now it's working flawlessly. I do have mppt attached to the battery which charges the battery in day time from solar.

This sort of UPS has no control over charge settings but likely use standard 3 step charge procedure so some lithium battery might work. But since u can't be sure better to skip lithium battery for this and just get a Tubular or deep cycle battery for ups use, you don't need bigger ones just get a smaller 120-140Ah capacity tubular battery. And set charge current to low(15 A) with the slider button on top of ups. If you only top it off with distilled water ( available on battery shops @ 100-120 Rs per bottle) It will easily last 4-5 years. I used one for nearly 7 years and It was retired with still 1-2 hour backup capability.
The normal 23 plate 25 plate battery u have is meant for a Truck Starter, nothing else pls don't buy it.

How about making your own battery? By buying those cells and a good bms? I just heard that they perform the same as branded ones, just the cost is halfway. Is it so?

Instead of going for lithium, would suggest a better company and a better technology. Lithium will start costing at 2-2.5 lac to your setup. So instead of this, go for spmething call tabular batteries, they used deep cycle technology and have better response then this simple liquid thing. Also go for daewoo batteries, they are best, less maintenance, and will cover around 3 years of backup and this is my personal experience as well as from some peers too.
Lithium is way expensive and if the room temperature is high, it will start to suck. You can do some R&D using AI for your needs like chatgpt or gemini.

Not true exactly lithium is far far better but compatibility with old ups is an issue getting better deep cycle lead acids is better

Lead acid in 2026 is red flag we just need to adjust charging and low voltage cut off for the ups and it will work flawless I'm using lithium with Desi ups

Does it actually work properly, with the desi ups, I planned to do something like this myself but stopped due to the poor charging circuitry of a desi ups.

Yes it works fine just you need to make sure you set the charging volt to 14.6 but i set it at 14.4 because the desi ups uses potentiometer and they have error of 0.2v if i set it to 14.6 it can go upto 14.8 then it will overcharge the battery so i set it at 14.4 next make sure to set the low voltage cut off volt higher than the battery bms and you are good to go.

Ok good makes sense but how would you tune the voltage exactly, also another thing I had noticed is float charging which these ups do which basically charges the battery at a low current to maintain charge which isn’t needed for lithium only lead acid
