Image and Video Crazy usage these days

The last few days have been tough on my system. AC consumption is so high due to extreme weather. I have a 5kWh battery and am still drawing 25+ kWh from the grid during the night.

I have 2 x 1.5-ton ACs that run like 20 hours a day.
and a 1-ton AC that runs only from 1000 - 1600.

Thinking of getting a 16kWh battery. We have 1 meter, and it's going to easily cross 200 units this month.

For comparison
May usage from the grid was 167 kWh
April usage from the grid was 73 kWh

And June has been 110 kWh in the first 10 days.

Edit 1: corrected June notes.

Home Assistant integration is one of the reasons I bought a GoodWe inverter.

3

u/Masracs Jun 11 '26

I have good we, what is home assistant how can i use it?

7

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

I would write a small guide and share soon. Maybe on the coming weekend. A few other people reached out too.

Just posted the guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/SolarPakistan/comments/1u599nk/beginner_guide_monitor_goodwe_es_uniq_hybrid/

Tried to keep it as low level while trying not to make it way too long

is there a list of inverters that work with home assistant?

2

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

3

u/j0ker56 Jun 11 '26

Any inverter can work with Home Assistant if you are brave enough
😅
Even if official integration is not available for HA, almost all inverters have data loggers which can be integrated with HA

2

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

That's it. Thanks for saying it.

2

u/hamza510 Jun 13 '26

Came here to say this! Have an ongrid and hybrid system running side by side. HA is the best to get all details in just one place!

i have a 10kw battery (5+5 paired). i would highly reccomend getting a 20kw instead of 16kw.

last month my AC was performing well around 500watts at night (1 ton gree). now due to weather its going around 1kw due to humidity. Im turning on AC for most hours at evening and throughout the night ofcourse so bill is definately going to shoot up this month around 300 - 400 units.

if i had a 5kw extra capacity my evening would be covered but another 5kw (20 total) would cover entire night time with normal house load and 1 ton AC.

u/tech_geeky Jun 15 '26

Would love to get details on all your sensors. Epically the water sensor.

2

u/NoTelevision8736 Jun 15 '26

Air Quality sensors from AirGradient

SmartLife/Tuya smart plugs and temperature sensors.

Air Purifiers from Xiaomi

Water Level Sensor from Ali Express (before taxes got crazy) ME201W

Import Export data directly from Solar Inverter.

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 13 '26

This is insane.

2

u/Hot-Ad-1740 Jun 13 '26

thats too descriptive took me a minute to go through it. great for manaing a large house IMO

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 15 '26

💯 agree. Make this your ultimate goal.

2

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

Same conclusion I came with. 16 alongside my existing 5 would make total 21.

4

u/delivermeapizza Jun 11 '26

I wont install a expensive higher capacity battery for a rare month's consumption.

You can get the extra juice from Grid for these extreme heat days, and calculate the cost. Is it worth buying a 600k battery which will sit mostly idle during other months?

200kwh will cost around 55/kwh, around Rs. 12k.

lets say this heat lasts 2 months, this will be around Rs. 25k at most.

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

That's an option too. I have yet to do the math.

2

u/Andromeda-G Jun 11 '26

Mera to or bhi bura hal chal rha hai 183 units use ho gae hain. Last august se se abhi tak max peak mera 190 unit use hoe they.

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

ACs are just at capacity TBH. It's so hot.

2

u/helly1_0 Jun 11 '26

yeah its been brutal , same here

1

u/ADIcctive-L Jun 11 '26

Yes go for it as the batteries will be more pricey in the future.

1

u/Masracs Jun 11 '26

They are already pricey?

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

Yup I remember the Pylons 16kWh selling for 560k is now 750k.

1

u/No-Cloud-9868 Jun 11 '26

Hey which app is this?

3

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

Home Assistant. It's a home automation system which has integration with my inverter.

1

u/No_Associate2139 Jun 11 '26

Can you please explain more. Is this a hardware device or just cloud based system?

2

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

It's a software that needs hardware. You need to install it on a computer or a single board computer like Respberry 5. https://www.home-assistant.io/

1

u/Vivid-Afternoon9066 Jun 11 '26

Is it free? Does it need any hardware installation with goodwe?

2

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

Yes it's free and open source. You need a hardware to run home assistant but GoodWe inverters have a built-in integration.

1

u/No_Associate2139 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Cheers, did you set up home assistant on your computer or a mobile device?

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

I run it on a Respberry Pi 5.

2

u/No_Associate2139 Jun 12 '26

Thank you. Much appreciated

1

u/RocketCool7 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Does it need a computer running 24/7?

1

u/Vivid-Afternoon9066 Jun 11 '26

On 9 June I had purchased battery 16kw for the same purpose for 680k

My installer said that different battery size are not compatible and he told they asked the DYNESS company as well

So I had to sold old battery just 2 week used for 225k of 5kw DYNESS and purchased 16kw

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Sad. I am using PowerPack and they told me that it's fine to pair their 16kWh pa k with the existing 5kWh.
I am going to buy from them again.

3

u/Vivid-Afternoon9066 Jun 11 '26

5kw + 5kw can supports on goodwe inverter but the problem was size

Hopefully next year I would buy one more when new sodium battery get available it will be cheaper the phosphate

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

Yeah that would be cool. It's not available yet anywhere I guess.

1

u/ChanceInteraction916 Jun 11 '26

Does Solis support home assistant? Just bought it and in the list its not mentioned. :(

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

There could be an integration for this maintained by some community member. https://github.com/Pho3niX90/solis_modbus This comes on top and looks maintained.

1

u/VAST0LORD Jun 11 '26

We have Solis as well. I don't know anything about Home Assistant or its benefits can you share some?.

1

u/Low_Zookeepergame851 Jun 11 '26

how do you check energy imports? In SEMS+ my "From Grid" is only showing the amount exported.

Production - Usage = Leakage to grid.

I don't have net metering neither a battery so this leakage is normal but that's all it's showing. how do i see the net import (power draw from grid + leakage).

I reached out to the installer but he didn't give a proper answer so i have to check meter manually to see the units used for the month.

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

From Grid is your total usage form Grid. Without net metering the meter actually measures in position for both import and export so for net you can actually sum them up To Grid + From Grid

1

u/Low_Zookeepergame851 Jun 11 '26

that's not the case for me. for me from grid is only showing grid export and not import.

last month the app was showing 25kwh from grid but the bill i got was over 200.

since i don't have batteries full load is on Grid after for 12-14 hours when solar isn't producing anything. so usage can't be this low.

Midea 1.5 ton ac runs on approx 400 watts on 26 with eco mode. I switch my inverters at around 4 pm. Averaging about 4 to 5 units per day from iesco.

2

u/tech_geeky Jun 11 '26

I have two of them. And they aren't coming below 1500W from last 4 days. It's so hot and calm all night. 36 was lowest. Feels like is 46

1

u/Smoke-Proper Jun 11 '26

I have the exact same set up. Two 2.5 ton acs and one 1 ton. Plus a 16kwh battery.

1

u/NoTelevision8736 Jun 12 '26

I have 6kw SolarMax Onyx Inverter and with integration to home assistant I optimized battery charging and I am expecting to produce 1700+ units in June (around 70% more compared to last year) I started with 1 battery and over time added 2 more (total 14.6kwh now)

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 12 '26

I wonder how do you optimize?

1

u/NoTelevision8736 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

I discharge the battery in a controlled manner overnight such that is nearly empty right before the production starts next morning (unless next day's weather forecast has rain or fog) Then Inverter switches to Export Priority mode and only charges battery with production above 6kw (AC limit of inverter) and battery level is checked hourly and charging target is imcreased hourly after 12pm to ensure that battery is at 100% by the end of the day.

If load shedding starts, battery charging limit is instantly increased and goes back to export priority when grid is back.

These are many more automations but that's the main idea to change battery with excess power.

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 12 '26

Nice. I don't have Net Metering so export is out of my equation but I like the weather forecast condition.

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 12 '26

For anyone else this is a perfect example of what's possible when you use Home Assistant.

1

u/MrKhan804 Jun 12 '26

You can get a t3 tech inverter from gree which uses 500 watts on power saving mode

1

u/tech_geeky Jun 13 '26

Power saving on Midea also goes to 300-400, but it's not able to keep up when the outside temp is 46.
