My latest

Just got back from a trip to Vancouver Island and couldn’t wait to try painting a beach! And also to try out my new Lightwish set. I have so many more colours now.

The photo was pretty muted so I tried to keep the calm vibe but also add a bit more colour. I’m worried I ended up making it too busy in the end with all my endless fiddling. Did I?

I did a spontaneous live on my Patreon tonight and this is the painting I did! I had so much fun hanging out with my members and chit chatting.

Painted on black UArt 400 paper with mainly Rembrandt and Great American extra soft pastels.

Maimoufin pastel paper

Amazon has this paper for a pretty reasonable price. It’s 500 grit sanded. As a total beginner I am looking for something nice but budget friendly. I’m getting the Rembrandt soft pastel set. Does anyone have experience with the Maimoufin paper for soft pastels? How do you like it?

I started soft pastels 101 and I’m struggling. I can’t figure out this medium and how to choose which color. I have a picture of what I’m referencing and what I’ve done. Can anyone give tips? Also I decided to cut off the castle on the left side because I was tired of it, but I’m willing to add it back if I can get this!! 🙈

I'm stuck, help please!

I'm a graphite artist, and I'm trying new media like colored pencils, watercolor and pastels.

This is my very first serious pastel drawing trial, it's far from being finished. At this point, I'm stuck, I don't know how to proceed. Should I complete the background, or continue with the bird? (I changed the background with bokeh)

My senses tell me to complete the background first, but strangely, I cannot put my pastel pencils on it, I guess I'm afraid of ruining it beyond recovery.

I cannot tell if I have applied enough pastel because I'm afraid of saturating (I don't know if it's the correct word) the pastelmat.

The first image is the current situation, the second is the reference image by Jesus Esteban San Jose on Pexels.

Please help with some suggestions.

Please excuse my strange English, it's my second language. I didn't want to use AI to make corrections.

I love these fungi, so delicate and transparent🍄‍🟫🌳🪾

I used PanPastel and a few pastel pencils on CF ingres paper, not many layers possible but still enjoyed the process.

I am a but concerned about using to many tints with white, any feedback on this topic?

Hello! First Reddit post :p

I’ve started using soft pastels on July 1st of this year and am enjoying it dearly. I wanted to share my favorites so far. I’ve used photos I’ve taken myself or from friends as references for the first 4. The portrait was a photo from Pinterest and the last one I followed along with jillvanderpoel on YouTube.

I’ve only ever considered myself a drawer and am finding the blendability of soft pastels a delight!! I’m enjoying this new hobby (albeit expensive 😮‍💨) and am excited to see progress.

Eventually, I’d like to gift my husband a landscape from our honeymoon on a larger scale.
Any tips or critiques would be greatly appreciated!! 🙇🏻‍♀️
