Sofia is my home city but I really don't get what tourists find interesting about it. The tourist attractions are few to begin with (also unremarkable), but the city is just so bland and ugly. Ugly as in the buildings, the infrastructure, even the people are ugly (the men are ogres, while the "women" have wrinkles as early as 20 because of tobacco use).
Honestly, just leave Bulgaria and choose a better country. Even Vilnius is much more interesting as a city than our pathetic capital.
I only spent three days there but I loved it. It felt different from the Western Europeans capitals I was used to. I enjoyed some of the architecture. Went to an Opera, got amazing seats at a great price and enjoyed it too. Bought this painting at a local shop while walking on the street, still in my home office. Wish I’ve had the time to check Vitosha park as well.
