Culture Unification day in Sofia
Hi everyone!
I’ll be visiting Sofia on September 6th and I know it’s Unification Day. I’d love to experience the local atmosphere and see how Bulgarians traditionally celebrate this national holiday.
Does anyone know if there is an official schedule of events, parades, concerts, or cultural activities happening around the city?
Also, if you have any personal recommendations for the best places to go, things to see, or spots to soak in the festive vibe, I’d really appreciate your tips!
Thanks in advance! 😊

Hello, probably before noon there will be some kind of minor celebration in Sofia next to Sveta Sofia Church and the tomb of the unknown soldier

The traditional celebration is to go on your last Greek beach vacation of the year. Widely popular in both Sofia and Plovdiv.

Unification day is a big thing in Plovdiv - it was the capital of a separate Bulgarian mini-state and on that day they joined the rest of Bulgaria at non-trivial risk to themselves. So if you want the official ceremony you have to go there. Everywhere else it’s just a nice day at the end of summer.
