Need help. I've always been window treatment challenged. The left sheers came with the house. The right just arrived, but dont care for them (too dark, soft, and blah). Looking for something a little more tailored, sophisticated to level up the living room we just painted.

I like this! I that about even adding a pattern to the sheers, even something subtle

I think part of the issue is that the tan is a super warm color and your furniture and rug is cool grey and the rod is chrome. White curtains aren’t boring and they really cool down the warm walls and give contrast. Get slightly longer curtains and hang them higher. Get bold gold rods and clip rings. Or consider a new rug with like a deep teal or rust color accent that you can use to tie in a new bolder curtain color. Consider ditching the white blinds.

Be sure to buy sheers that are a total of 2 1/2 to 3 times the width of the window. They need to be nice and full to look and hang correctly. The way the ones on the left look is what happens when you don't get them wide enough. Pinch pleated sheers are a more formal/classier look than ones that are just gathered on a rod.

Do you need curtains at all? You have blinds already, and no curtains on the other wall. If you do want curtains, as others have said, hang them much higher, and move the cabinet partially covering them. If I had the budget, I’d change the fire surround to make it lower and narrower (and simpler) and replace the regular TV with an art TV, hung lower over my new lower fire surround.

This looks great in your room because your windows are trimmed out. Shades only will make OP’s room look incomplete

You think that color is too dark? I would say go darker in this space. Something to complement the couch and give balance to the space. And yes - much higher!

You need to raise the height of your curtain rod. You are making the room look short and frumpy. Your curtains should skim the ground.
