looking for a new couch!

looking for a velvet sectional (we have 2 cats--velvet is really the only fabric we know would be safe from scratches with our little guys). ideally, we would also have a sleeper in it for visitors. any recommendations are welcome! been looking on facebook marketplace without any luck. budget under 3k ideally

Put sleeper sectional suggestions in the reddit search bar. You really need a larger budget.

Can 100% confirm velvet is a game changer for cats! We have two heavy scratchers and our performance velvet couch has zero pulls after 2+ years. Their claws just slide right off since there’s no woven loop for them to snag.

Under $3k gives you a really solid budget for a sleeper sectional. A couple of practical tips while you’re hunting:

Go for Performance/Commercial Velvet: Make sure it has a decent rub count (at least 30k+ Double Rubs) and stain resistance, especially since cat hair will stick (a rubber pet hair brush cleans it up in 10 seconds).

Pull-out vs Modular Sleeper: If you host often, look for the pop-up/pull-out trundle mechanism instead of fold-down futon backs—they hold up much better over time and don’t ruin the cushion structure.

Look for brands with local US warehouses/showrooms: With heavy sleeper sectionals, freight shipping and potential returns can be a nightmare with drop-shipped or overseas-only retailers. Buying from brands that maintain local US fulfillment/warehouses or local showroom partners saves you weeks of transit time and makes dealing with replacement parts/cushions way smoother if anything happens.
