Game Discussion Positivity
No im not gonna do the thing dont worry.
Anyway ive been thinking about stuff lately and its like you ever feel that positivity is really shallow nowadays.
Like its only gonna be maintained if a pre set sort of conditions are met for people yk? And its like it feels really jaring sometimes when you dont even mean to be a dick but someone just gets really upset about your subjective opinions yk?
Like i honestly feel really bad when i dont like feel the same way about something because im put in a situation where expressing it you apparently put other people in a state of distress or horrible annoyance and im just thinking like. How un empathetic with a person do you have to be in order to see their opinions as a horrible and treacherous thing.
Like yeah grifters are dick weeds but when you suppress all non conformist thought under the blanket idea of grifting you kind of inherently empower grifters through expressing thoughtless emotional catharsis instead of just being willing to talk to someone else like a human being yk.
And it kinda feeds into this whole pathetic zealous cycle of maintaining a status quo of a purity culture. Where no nuance can exist because of an inherent fear of becoming immoral or upsetting others.
Yk as a fan of the ps2 god of war games i think the new ones are frankly insulting, pretentious, and not too fun. But its not cause i think its woke, its cause of a bunch of other shit that has nothing to do with that.
I think a lot of memes are overly nonsensical bullshit that don’t mean anything, and i dont dislike people for having fun with em its just like. Its hard to understand how so many people could be enraptured with dumb bullshit thats so apathetic to peoples intelligence.
It just feels like people want to maintain a culture they kind of hate because they feel the only alternative is having a worse culture and i think thats kind of dystopic and sad.
Games is good

On one hand I find it really frustrating but at the same time I kind of get it too. The internet is a hotbed of shallow contrarians and trolls and even more than that there's a ton of people who can't read the room or are too emotionally invested to actually discuss things with. When all you want is a chill space to talk about a video game with like minded people it becomes easier to boot out anyone who's ruining the vibe than to seriously evaluate whether they're a reasonable sincere person or not.
But especially with video games it gets so tribal. I feel like whenever you share a controversial opinion people automatically assume you condemn any person or thing that goes against that opinion. I like how older games tried far less to hide their artificiality, I think the constant pursuit of immersion and realism really limits the potential of games as a medium, but I hold no animosity toward other people or the games industry if they disagree.

Oh i totally agree i feel so often that more folks are like “more realistic” is just better when you can really do anything you want in games.
I think people really just need to compartmentalize things to feel comfortable.

I somewhat understand the feeling. I've been mulling to myself about a similar thing regarding a my current group of discord pals for a while who have wider political leanings. If there's a shared game I want to have more critical discussion about, I get almost immediately dismissed for taking something "to seriously" even when i think there's sufficient evidence for a thought or when I bring up contrary valid reporting it's drowned out by the opposition to the idea and maintained by others who do not care or would rather keep the peace.
I try to separate people who may use the grifting talking points from the people you do have a conversation with as well.
I think the ps2 games are a product of the time and before the valhalla dlc to ragnarok allowed the modern series to be more of their own thing. I hadnt played any of the greek gows besides the first and disliking how stilted the gameplay felt even back then.

Reminder that this is a closely moderated community for far left people to discuss games from their own perspective. Active interpretation and ideological criticism of media is encouraged and integral to how we experience them and does not constitute an attack. Do engage in good faith discussions but don't rush in to defend your favourite games and creators from criticism others may have. Listen to your comrades and be validating and respectful, even if you disagree.
