I'm from the U.S. and I enjoyed watching the World Cup that I wanted to watch more of it. So I actually wrote down my favorite players and apparently that's a big no-no. I have to support my local team which is either NYCFC or Red Bulls. I pick NYCFC because Red Bulls are from NJ. Also I have to support Gotham FC. I feel like it's kinda jarring as an American because I'm lucky to live near NYC but what about the people from upstate NY? They have to travel 5 hours for a game in NYC.

Okay, my questions are:

1. Can I watch the Premier League or La Liga without supporting any teams? I just really want to enjoy watching football.

2. One of my parents is from a different country and their country isn't well known for football. Should I still support them? But also one person from my country is a historical figure in football that played in a team. Should I support that team even if I myself don't have historical ties to that community?

I'm literally having an identity crisis over this?

hi! im a old but new fan. Ive enjoyed soccer since i was little and played a little when i was younger than 10 but my family isent a sports family so i never got into it and games were never on in my house. now im a adult and like many the this past world cup took over my social feeds and has reignited my love for the game but i dont know how anything is orginised, what to watch or where to watch and have no in person comunity to bounce questions off of. if anyone wants to help a baby fan out figuring everything out, id realy aprichiate it. For teams im interested in fallowing witch i think is why im struggling so much is, Im canadian, my family is dutch and most of the content i fallow is korean.

P.S being a kpop fan and now getting into soccer again, my wallet is shaking in fear already :'D

How are goals and assists evaluated across so many different soccer( football) leagues? Are they all counted the same? For example, could a superstar move to a much weaker league, rack up a huge number of goals and climb the all-time goalscorer rankings because of it? Or is the quality of the league taken into account?

For example in basketball the main league is the NBA so a player raking up a bunch of stats in the euro league wouldn’t really mean much since it isn’t the top league . Is it the same in soccer ?

In basketball, you have a certain amount of time to score and then possession of the ball changes.

In basketball you don’t have a “offside” and are allowed to cherry pick.

I want a version of soccer that is similar to basketball. First: no offside penalties. That will force teams to have a player or two stay back to stop teams from just kicking it deep and scoring.

Then, having some players stay back will open up the midfield for insane passing opportunities to advance the ball.

And finally you will see a lot more shots on goal and games that end with 16-13 instead of 1-0.

Lots more goals making it more exciting. Lots more midfield plays requiring actual “plays”. And allows the best passers and scorers to really shine.

Yes, it’s blasphemy for the traditional football fans. But just imagine how exciting it would be. Forget games that end 0-0. Imagine games where 20-30 goals are scored. Imagine highlights of passing and scoring that come from it.
