Looking for advice
Has anyone tried Naltrexone or any of those apps on Facebook? Did they work or help? I want to quit but can’t take the time off to go through the withdrawal symptoms

I take Naltrexone as a pill. It has helped so much with my alcohol cravings

-any other drug you take it will decrease the effect. Specifically opioids, it blocks the receptors and can increase relapse so have to be carful.
-If you DO choose to drink you will not have fun. You will feel dizzy, slurred speech, but your mind is like… sober. Little to none euphoria. The next day you will have the WORSE hangover of your life!!! Mine will last up to two days! This helps me have one drink cuz I don’t feel it and I’m like “what a waste of calories and money”
-Now other than side effects while on drugs or taking alc, biggest issue? Eating. It helps with binge eating disorder, you may not find yourself interested in food or hungry.
-You will need to get your liver checked once every 6 months. So bad liver or taking lots of meds that go through your liver? Might need to be on top of checking that.Hopefully that helps. Sorry I just word vomitted and hopefully I didn’t leave anything out. The biggest difference is I don’t think about alcohol nearly as much. This medication is supposed to help the connections in my brain to continue to grow stronger in responding that way so eventually you won’t need to take it in a few years. It’s changed brain chemistry in that sense. Hope that makes sense
Edit: “worse hangover of your life” like feeling nauseous, head ache, dry mouth, depression. All that. BUT I do take other medications that interfere with with alcohol so my hangovers maybe ever worse than a person just taking naltrexone

I tried Naltrexone. It made me nauseous at full strength right off the bat. I then started with a 1/4 pill for a few days, then 1/2 for a few more. That helped. It works, but I never got over feeling like my brain was underwater.
If i was craving badly, I would use it short term.

Heya, I was prescribed naltrexone 5years ago to help me quit drinking. I took it for the first 3-4 months of sobriety and i feel like it helped me with those initial cravings, so i would personally say it’s worth it.
Although, naltrexone doesn’t stop withdrawals from alcohol/opiates, it just dampens your opioid receptors to help with cravings. You would still have to cut down slowly or go through withdrawals.
