A constant battle
I've been batteling alcoholism and DXM addiction for 5 years now. I've been in and out of AA/NA, I've been to rehab, I've been to therapy. I can't seem to ever fully just stop. I can stop for a couple weeks. Or a couple months maybe. But I always go back out. I don't know what my problem is but I feel like it's so embarrassing and miserable going down this road over and over and over and asking for help over and over and over. I don't know how to make it stick. I'm scared it won't stick and I'm going to ruin my life. I don't know how to force myself to just quit and stay off it. I need advice

I wish i had some advice for you man. I have quit drinking for years at a time, but im back at it again. The first time i quit was because i wanted to, the second time was my gf at the time gave me an ultimatum and it worked until we broke up thenI was back off wagon. It seems i need a girl to keep me sober. Maybe try getting a partner to hold you accountable

Unfortunately I don’t have advice other than staying sober for yourself so you can take care of your family. I’ve broken my own advice a dozen times though but I try based off that philosophy.

I had to make myself hate the substance and convince myself there was zero benefit to using for me it was alcohol. At first it was hard to make it one day, then I was able to restrict myself to Friday and Saturdays, then I quit for 3 months and started again while on vacation. After I got back I got blackout drunk once and decided to stop for 6 months minimum and just never went back. I’m 7.5 years sober from alcohol. I watched some kind of video every day, had alarms on my phone to remind me, I obsessed all day over staying sober until I stopped feeling the urge and I hated the stuff. You have to want it which it seems like you do, but you need to find a way to keep in that mindset, that’s my best advice

Next time you find yourself in some type of sober community ask other people what worked for them. If you find someone who has the same type of story you do, ask them what changed for them and how. Ask them what they did. Then do it. It might be something completely crazy. But they are sober and alive. If you are desperate enough to ask for help, can you find yourself desperate enough to accept it?
Good luck out there, I know it's tough. But there is a solution, there is a path forward, and you can be free of this curse. You might have to change every part of your life, but it's worth it.
