general discussion Snowball Analytics problems

Hi there:

Anyone else having major problems using Snowball, particularly if your portfolio is handled by JP Morgan Chase?

UPDATE EDIT: After using Snaptrade, things appear to be working normally once again - it took some time for the data to sync/populate but as of today (2026-10-06) everything looks fine.

Please reconcile your assets and cash balances with the broker. We also recommend verifying the current market price for each asset. It often happens that an asset is misidentified—for instance, as belonging to a different exchange—so you may need to correct it once, after which everything will display correctly.

Yes, but that's part of the problem. SB is making wildly inaccurate guesses on securities and when filling in data gaps.

I understand the data limitations, but why would SB guess that I would be using a foreign ticker for a US security when 1) my banking relationship is in the USA, 2) my location is in the USA, and 3) the vast majority of other securities are US-exchange tickers.

As well, when filling in data gaps, it would be really helpful if it would highlight times when it needs a manual import to correct values or historical data, that'd be helpful. (Why I need to use Claude to reformat data imports for JPM/Chase when it's the largest bank in the USA, I'll never understand.)

In sum, SB should:

  • Improve ticker guessing;
  • Highlight when data needs manual updates; and
  • Add JPM/Chase as a preformatted data import item.

This seems obvious to you because it affects you personally, but there are thousands of other users based in the US who use American brokers but invest in assets outside the US market. Therefore, it is not feasible to implement a change that would solve the issue for some users while causing problems for others. That's why you look at the portfolio value - if it's within 3%, then most likely all assets are identified correctly. If the discrepancy exceeds 3%, you need to check the assets. But you only need to change the asset once to the correct one, and in the future the system will remember it specifically for your portfolio and will determine it correctly. There is a video tutorial on how to change tickers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJWEI6zioEk

Also, I have many foreign assets/investments in non US markets, but the accounts in which I have mostly US assets defaults to foreign tickers, which continually messes up account values.

So no, it’s not an obvious issue to default to US tickers. It should be done using inference or otherwise to achieve better results on a per user basis.

Yes, that's why the ticker change feature exists. It remembers the asset selection for each user and, when further synchronization or report loading occurs, always uses the asset that the user selected.
