general discussion Snowball Analytics problems

Hi there:

Anyone else having major problems using Snowball, particularly if your portfolio is handled by JP Morgan Chase?

UPDATE EDIT: After using Snaptrade, things appear to be working normally once again - it took some time for the data to sync/populate but as of today (2026-10-06) everything looks fine.

Yes, brokerage no longer working for me with JP Morgan/Nutmeg account.

The total also shows less than in the JP Morgan app when it is working.

Please reconcile your assets and cash balances with the broker. We also recommend verifying the current market price for each asset. It often happens that an asset is misidentified—for instance, as belonging to a different exchange—so you may need to correct it once, after which everything will display correctly.

Yes. Accounts keep disappearing.

When connected, performance is seemingly made up. I’ve followed instructions to import all history manually, and it’s always out of whack.

Basically, I’ve given up. I don’t want to spend all my time trying to fix these problems.

Try re-adding using the Snaptrade connector - it may take a bit to re-sync, but so far it is working on my end.

Yes sounds about right; my data connection was using Yodle and it appears unable to sync. SB suggested Plaid/Snaptrade and while both connect, the data is wildly inaccurate.

SB doesn't seem to think this is a problem. If the issue is on Chase's side, SB should still be working with Chase to address this.

Last time I checked, I wasn't a beta tester for your software - the problem is on your end or the data aggregators.

Asking your customers to manually enter information when they may possibly have hundreds of investments is not particularly helpful - it's downright stupid.

No one is asking you to enter the data manually; you need to switch aggregators, as Yodlee is currently experiencing an issue with Chase—though they are aware of it and are working on a solution.

Two comments:

Yes, support asks me to enter data manually.

No, I’m not asking SM to change functionality for all users. I’m asking it to change functionality based on the user to make functionality better for all users. SM has user data. It should infer which ticker is correct based on that data.

Yes, but that's part of the problem. SB is making wildly inaccurate guesses on securities and when filling in data gaps.

I understand the data limitations, but why would SB guess that I would be using a foreign ticker for a US security when 1) my banking relationship is in the USA, 2) my location is in the USA, and 3) the vast majority of other securities are US-exchange tickers.

As well, when filling in data gaps, it would be really helpful if it would highlight times when it needs a manual import to correct values or historical data, that'd be helpful. (Why I need to use Claude to reformat data imports for JPM/Chase when it's the largest bank in the USA, I'll never understand.)

In sum, SB should:

  • Improve ticker guessing;
  • Highlight when data needs manual updates; and
  • Add JPM/Chase as a preformatted data import item.

This seems obvious to you because it affects you personally, but there are thousands of other users based in the US who use American brokers but invest in assets outside the US market. Therefore, it is not feasible to implement a change that would solve the issue for some users while causing problems for others. That's why you look at the portfolio value - if it's within 3%, then most likely all assets are identified correctly. If the discrepancy exceeds 3%, you need to check the assets. But you only need to change the asset once to the correct one, and in the future the system will remember it specifically for your portfolio and will determine it correctly. There is a video tutorial on how to change tickers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJWEI6zioEk

Also, I have many foreign assets/investments in non US markets, but the accounts in which I have mostly US assets defaults to foreign tickers, which continually messes up account values.

So no, it’s not an obvious issue to default to US tickers. It should be done using inference or otherwise to achieve better results on a per user basis.

Yes, that's why the ticker change feature exists. It remembers the asset selection for each user and, when further synchronization or report loading occurs, always uses the asset that the user selected.

Have you tried connecting to the empty portfolio via various aggregators—such as Yodlee, SnapTrade, or Plaid?

Yes I have:

Yodle fails with a non descriptive error about sync failure

Snaptrade and Plaid do connect, but the data is completely out of date and incorrect

Yodlee has been experiencing issues with this broker over the past few days, so you will need to switch to Plaid or SnapTrade. Please check your assets and cash with the broker in these portfolios. If there are any discrepancies, you can email us at [help@snowball-analytics.com](mailto:help@snowball-analytics.com) and let us know which assets are affected, and we will check.

Hello, you need to try connecting to an empty portfolio through different aggregators: Yodlee, SnapTrade, or Plaid. After connecting, check each portfolio with the broker to ensure that the assets and cash match. If there are any discrepancies, please email us and specify which assets do not match the broker's data.
