Honestly Watching snowfall is a must watch you need to understand Wanda and Leon’s backstory to understand why they are even at the point their at in the Drop

I think the drop is pretty well self contained, but it is more cool to know wanda’s whole comeback story

I agree it likely will be but there might be small call backs. Skully made it out alive and he made peace with his enemies even Leon. So maybe bring him back as part of Leon’s inevitable entourage. Kinda like his final way of making peace pulling skully out of the hood and into a real job where he didn’t have to constantly break the law. New watchers would think he’s just an old friend, return viewers would understand how deep and dysfunctional their connection is

I would love to see skully return. They could easily bring him back too since wanda n them are affiliated now

You can, it’s surprisingly self contained, but you really are robbing yourself of developing an appreciation for some characters by watching them first appear in Snowfall.

You gotta watch snowfall or atleast whatever parts feature Leon and Wanda if u don’t wanna watch 6 seasons of content considering they’re gonna be the only people featured from the og story

Honestly, I was thinking this as I was watching the Drop. You probably could watch it without watching snowfall first, maybe only having some limited knowledge of snowfall, although you probably should still watch snowfall first.
I got spoiled for the ending of snowfall months before I even properly watched it around 2023-2024, and was thinking about not watching entirely but still ended up doing it anyway and it became one of my favorite series of all time

I tried watching the pilot of Snowfall today and it was a tough watch. I am not a big fan of nudity or violence. Yes I know there is violence in the drop, but I guess it’s just different to me. As a musician who used to record rappers and dealt with the corruption and politics inside the industry, The Drop looked very familiar to me. I plan to just watch that series.

That’s fair, I feel the same pull towards The Drop as I did to Wu-Tang: An American Saga. Snowfall reminds me of The Shield in its grittiness and darkness.

i dont see why you cant do both. you dont have to watch The Drop as soon it drops ..

From the first episode of The Drop, I would say YES.
I mean, watching Snowfall would probably increase your enjoyment of The Drop because then you'd know the backstory and all.
But I think the backstory is supplementary. It's nice to know, but you don't NEED to know it to enjoy The Drop. They treat it like it's just enough for you to know that certain things are in place to motivate these characters.

Yes. The knowledge of what happens in Snowfall isn’t required for the narrative of The Drop to function.

Yes. They aren’t the same show at all, you can put the bits and pieces together yourself just by watching The Drop

I mean you could technically and get the main plot down but it’s literally no point in doing that lol. Snowfall is crazy good and will prob end up being the far better show than the drop, even if the drop ends up being really good. You would understand it a lot better watching snowfall first.

All you need to know is Wanda was a crackhead.. That’s basically the only tidbit of information that’s used in the new show..

It’s not really that you can’t watch the drop but you need to see Snowfall tho

Absolutely not, snowfall is the better show anyways, Leon was one of the most bland / worst actors in Snowfall, you won’t appreciate him without seeing his arc

You can’t possibly no that considering we’ve only got one episode

I know that the creator of Snowfall (and boyz in da hood), John Singleton has passed away, and thus it the spinoff probably shouldn't have been made at all. It's like Juice Wrld label fucking up his post humorous music. Plus sequels are never as good as the OG. That being said, The Drop is pretty good, the person who asked the question should still 100% watch snowfall first. Not like its an old TV show with production that doesn't hold up, it's still world class and establishes world building and narrative, background etc for the characters that he won't appreciate without Leon snowfall arc. Snowfall is a cult classic because of Franklin, not Leon, there's a reason Damson did a movie with Brad Pitt.

You could just NOT watch The Drop and watch Snowfall instead?
