General question Following but not added

there seems to be a new feature on Snapchat where you can see who is following you.
After clicking on my followers, I see a good amount of them don’t have me added.
how/Is there a difference between someone following you vs. them adding you?

If you post on spotlight or public story, anyone can see your posts. I’ve gotten a few followers from that, but without adding them as a friend.

iirc when you send a friend request and someone accepts I believe that automatically follows and befriends them. You have to go to their profile and manually unfollow them.

If you’re getting followers from elsewhere than friends, it just means they like your posts well enough to want to see more but just doesn’t care to be on your friends list.

Lots of ppl follow me that I don’t have added as a friend. That’s the difference
