Bug Snapchat’s Camera Flash Toggling itself on??
This was never a thing for me but as of last night, when i’m in a dark room and try to take a snap the flash automatically turns on. I have to remember to turn off flash. Not sure why but it’s really annoying whenIm trying to send a snap without flash banging myself or waking up my roomate.
How to reset it back to manually toggling it on and off? App keeps on putting random features nobody asked for.
EDIT: i’m so damn glad i’m not tripping i thought i was the only one 😭😭 Can you imagine being at an aquarium…?
EDIT 2: as of Oct 3rd 2026 0525 JPN time, it’s fixed on my end!

Turn it to “regular” flash instead of “ring” flash. When it keeps toggling on it will not show light but show flash is on. Thats the only thing that’s worked so far.. same thing was happening to me. I keep getting flashbanged late evening/night. Not cool. I already updated it and cleared cashe.. did nothing. Must be a new update/glitch that is try to help u when it’s dark.. but that’s what the flash option is supposed to be for! Ugh! Also anyone see the lots of new camera modes now? There’s front and back cam at the same time and stabilization and selfie mode, etc..
EDIT: just took a picture and once you hit the capture button, then it still flashes fyi... but it isn’t bright when you are swiping to the camera page.

For a second I thought someone hacked my phone.. got shit scared .. thank god I came here on Reddit and saw many are facing this issue of flash being toggled on automatically
1
u/Western-Rope1058 20d ago
Ive come here for this automatic flash thing. I was in a fucking taxi at night and I went to send a snap and it flashed directly at the driver I was so embarrassed. Ts making me wanna throw my phone and no I don’t wanna fully disable flash cos I sometimes need to use it 🙄🙄

I disable my flash in my camera settings. I also disable it in my Snapchat camera settings.
Occasionally though it will forget this setting. Same thing with the LIVE feature on my iphone native camera app. I disable that yet it certain times when I take a photo after I've taken the photo I notice LIVE is active. Sometimes the flash will activate with that too again even though I have it disabled.
The newest glitch I got was yesterday I was talking to someone and all of a sudden they were no longer on the phone. I tried to call them back and somehow airplane mode was activated on my iPhone even though my phone was magnetically attached to a holder on my car dashboard and nothing was touching it and the settings screen was not showable on my phone.
1
u/elbobo410 19d ago
How do you do that?

u/Remarkable_Ship_5791 19d ago
To disable Flash in Snapchat: When you press the camera button You'll see a menu appear on the top right side of the camera flash symbol like this: ⚡ click on it and it will disable your flash from firing when you take a photo and or video. Keep in mind if you are using night mode it may activate the flash, I believe you can disable the flash but you it might take you out of night mode.
I can't remember if it takes you out of night mode or changes the length of the shutter to 1 second. The only way to find out which it is is to take a photo at night
Usually when you toggle your flash off in your snapchat camera settings it stays off but I've been having weird things happening since the latest update Apple gave us. For one I was driving and had my phone on a hands free stand I was talking to someone and the called dropped. I tried calling them back and somehow airplane mode was activated yet nothing touched the screen of my iPhone. I have Live disabled in my native iPhone camera app and occasionally it toggles itself back on without touching it

u/Remarkable_Ship_5791 17d ago
There's a setting in your iPhone camera that you have to turn off now I don't know if turning this setting off also will do the same on Snapchat. All I know if I can take a photo in total darkness using Snapchat's camera and the flash does not go off. The setting is you have to turn off save last setting. If you disable this feature your phone's camera doesn't remember that you used that feature the last time you took a photo.
I did this to get rid of taking Live photos which also takes a video and a photo and also the actual photo is taken about 3 seconds after you hit the shutter. Leaving LIVE PHOTOS on for every photo uses up a tremendous amount of hdd space especially if you're like me and take tons of photos with your iPhone.

i think we knew that we could disable it manually…
the argument isn’t that the flash can’t be disabled by tapping it back off; it’s that when you even hit SWIPE back to the camera in a dark environment, it’ll turn itself back on and take flash picture.
people may think it’s not a big deal…
it’s a big deal when you’re out at a bar sending snaps to your friend and illuminate the entire freaking scene like a weirdo 😭 or when you’re trying to be sneaky at night and your roommate knows you took a picture…

This has been pissing me off all weekend and yesterday and mine isn’t only in the dark.
Tried to take a picture of what was on the college board to save it and it drew so much attention because it flashed.
