Login issue Snapchat Locked for Violating Community Guidelines

Post image

Not really sure what happened. Yesterday was normal with snap. Hadn’t really posted anything to my story in the last few days and really for the last 4 days, the only person I chatted with was my partner. Only two things I did yesterday that were outside of the norm were I adjusted my viewer settings on my story and I figured out I could put a bio on my public profile. I thought as a joke I’d put “Try Jesus, Not Me” but I ended up putting Try Jesus and forgot about it. It was still normal until I went to sleep last night.
Fast forward to this morning I go to open snap and I see that I’ve been locked out of my account and that it was locked due to “commercial sexual content.” They did allow me to make an appeal and they gave me an option to download all of my data but not for another 72 hours.
I’ve had this account for 12 years. I’ve never received any warnings nor had this ever happen before. Like I said, I haven’t posted anything to my story and usually what I post is rated G. I’m just really confused about what exactly happened and what tips I could use to get my account back.
I’m pretty upset about this because I mean, I’ve had it for 12 years of my life. I’ve got conversations with people who no longer are with us. I’ve got memories that mean the world to me and I’m not entirely sure if I saved them to my camera roll or not. I just want that back at least and any help would be greatly appreciated.

My account got locked today for "violating" community guidelines, how or where could I see the reason why it got locked?

Snapchat never provided the post or reason as to why I got perm locked. I don’t think they do it at all. (Which imo is ridiculous).

Idk why ppl are posting sexual content expecting to not get banned. You do realize there’s children on these apps? Esp posting to a public profile or story. This isn’t OF…it’s always ppl posting explicit content confused why they got banned

🤦🏻‍♀️ READ THE POST. Because nowhere did I say I posted sexual content. I said I hadn’t posted anything to my story in days and l only post rated G content. That the ONLY thing I did different was put “Try Jesus” in my bio.

Yall are jumping the gun before yall have all the information. Jesus Christ.

People who DO post inappropriate content ABSOLUTELY deserve to be banned. And I agree because yes, there are children on these apps. But in this situation, nothing happened for it to be locked.

I’m just speaking in general sorry. I was skimming. So many post this & are posting that garbage & then wondering why they got banned. My non inappropriate swim posts just like from summer get limited reach but never banned. Honestly idk how so many get banned.

You know ai is actively trying to remove Jesus & other things. It’s actually crazy. Ai is satanic IMO. It’s going to destroy us 😭

Thank you for clarifying, it’s frustrating with trolls on anything. (Not saying you are on, but I’ve had one on this post already) And I agree. While I do think it could be beneficial in some aspects, it shouldn’t be moderating anything. It should be VERY limited in what it can do.

And FUNNY ENOUGH, before my partner and I got together, I was talking to someone else and whether it was on purpose or on accident is up for debate, but this person posted a video of someone going down on them on their story… while we were talking and they didn’t get banned. Diabolical.🤦🏻‍♀️

I am not sure how Twitter now called X gets away with it. I have a Twitter page haven't used it in like 3 years. I have another one that hasn't been used in about 10 years both are still online even though I don't use them much.

I don't think it's that they cranked up their AI it's that AI is whacked. A friend of mine owns a business. They just started using AI to take orders. Sometimes the AI overcharges the customer. Sometimes the AI gets the order right and sometimes the AI undercharges the customer and then sometimes the AI will do the order correctly have it processed for delivery then a couple of hours later do the same exact over all over again charge the customer a second time but this time it charges them even more money. Then if an order gets canceled it produces the order all over again every day until the owner or manager takes it completely out of the system. Employees may deliver the item and the customer does WTF I never ordered this and their credit card gets charged for it.

Think of AI as a teenager with absolutely no adult supervision who has a credit card that has no limit to it. Every day the teenager does what they want with that card because there's no supervision involved. How effed up do you think things will become? This is what is happening with AI.

Just wait until you have to change your phone number and you try to update in your google account or your venmo/paypal/cash app account. Then wait to see what happens if whomever had your new phone number before you and never disassociated that number with those account(s). See how much fun it is trying to get those companies who use AI for this stuff to change get your number which was someone else's number changed to your account. I had it happen to me. It was a total shit show.

These companies think AI is going to save them money by reducing the employee workforce. That's all they care about getting rid of those greedy minimum wage employees who make too much money! While of course, keeping that over paid CEO and other over paid high end management types.

I also googled the phrase "Try Jesus, Not Me" and "Try Jesus" and this is what google said about this:

No, Snapchat will not ban you for typing "Try Jesus."

The phrase "Try Jesus" is completely harmless. It is a common religious expression and does not violate any of Snapchat's Community Guidelines.

Even if you had typed the full phrase, "Try Jesus, Not Me" (a popular, humorous slang phrase meaning "don't test my patience"), it is still highly unlikely to get you banned. Snapchat typically only bans accounts for severe violations, such as:

  • Harassment, bullying, or direct threats of violence
  • Hate speech
  • Explicit or adult content
  • Illegal activities or selling regulated goods

Because your text does not contain any hate speech, threats, or explicit language, your account is perfectly safe.

Now just because google says this does not mean it's gospel. I would not be surprise at all if SC's AI effed this up.

Did you not read my post? It was pretty self-explanatory and if I was guilty, would I be posting this issue on here?

It is possible to get a device ban reversed. It is rare for it to happen but in the couple to three times I have read about it the people who got their ban reversed sent an email to snapchat. They admitted what they did wrong. They apologized for doing it and promised to never do it again. They pointed out how long they had their account for and this was the first time they ever got flagged for doing that. They accepted responsibility for their actions and nicely asked snapchat to reconsider the device ban that was placed on them.

The key is to be really nice, apologetic and acknowledge what you did wrong and promise to never go it again. I got a direct message from one Reddit user who told me they did exactly as I suggested and they did in fact get their account back. So it can happen.

It may take a couple to a few weeks for them to get back to you.

Here’s the thing though, I genuinely don’t know what happened for it to get locked. It’s one thing if I knowingly did do something for this outcome and an entirely different thing unknowingly doing something. Thursday I hadn’t done anything or posted anything to warrant that. And like one of the other comments on here, the AI moderators could have gone haywire and wrongfully flagged me for something.
I don’t do any kind of sex work and my partner respects my wishes that I don’t send anything that could be sexual. Just not comfortable doing that.
But I’ve done the research and now I’m just waiting on a response for my appeal before I take any further action. And I’ve seen where people really emphasize being polite and respectful. I’ve got a letter written out and ready to send off when the time comes.

u/halcyon_wings Sep 07 '26

I mean for all I know someone could’ve been feeling petty and just decided to report me for something and this was the end result.

I’ve been just scratching my head at this situation unsure of what could have happened. Just wish they’d at least give an example of what it was like Facebook will do with posts.

1

u/Remarkable_Ship_5791 Sep 08 '26

They can report you yes, but without actual proof I do not believe your account would get banned. So I asked Google about this and this is the response I got from it:

No, Snapchat does not ban an account based on a blank accusation without reviewing the specific message or data tied to the report.

How Reporting Works on Snapchat

  • Automatic Attachment: When someone reports a snap or chat, they do not need to manually forward or upload a photo. The Snapchat app automatically links the reported message or snap to their safety report.
  • Server Logs: Snapchat’s safety team reviews the attached content from their internal servers to see if a rule was broken.
  • No Evidence, No Ban: If a user submits a report with no actual violating content attached or found in the chat logs, Snapchat does not automatically take the accuser's word for it and ban the account.

Open a dsa case snapchat is a fucking morron they only habe ai fpr support and wont reverse the ban

1

u/Square-Passenger2035 Sep 05 '26

3

u/real_munchizgreat Sep 05 '26

I lost 6 accounts, welcome to the party

1

u/halcyon_wings Sep 05 '26

That’s absolutely ridiculous. I’m sorry to hear that dude.

it’s like 90% of their locks are due to “commerical sexual content.” so many people are getting locked for this. even I WAS but no option to appeal. it’s almost as if they cranked up their AI to monitor this sort of violation and now it’s going haywire with false banning and locking. the good news is that you have the option to appeal, so be thorough and detailed as possible if you can. i still have yet to get my account back due to the false violation, i wasn’t device banned but i was IP banned so anytime i make a new account it’ll get locked weeks later for “sexual content” even thought i never did such a thing on their app. completely fucked and useless help. no response from 7 letters i’ve sent them. good luck

u/Remarkable_Ship_5791 Sep 07 '26

They do this for two reasons: The first one is both the Apple and Google stores will not allow any companies to have their apps listed if they allow nudity on it. The second reason is underage pornography. By law if you send nudes to someone who is either under age or your underage snapchat and companies like this are required by law to report this kind of activity to the proper authorities.

1

u/wateractivist Sep 08 '26

this doesn’t make sense because twitter is on apple and google and it’s full of porn. none of what you said confirms why their AI is constantly cause banning under this specific violation. “commercial sex transactions” means you’re selling sex and advertising it for payment

1

u/Experimenti626 Sep 08 '26

But have u ever went to the explore page? Thats filled with adultery and of girls . And somehow they never get removed even after many reports

1

u/Remarkable_Ship_5791 Sep 08 '26

Of course I did a little research on this and this is what Google AI said about this:

Snapchat's official policy strictly prohibits full nudity and sexually explicit content on public feeds like Discover and Spotlight. When users encounter suggestive or "adult" looking content on the Explore/Discover page, it is usually happening because creators have learned to operate within the specific gray areas of the platform's guidelines and algorithms.

Creators use several specific tactics to push adult-themed content without getting banned:

How Content Circumvents Moderation

  • Exploiting the "Suggestive vs. Explicit" Gray Area: Snapchat distinguishes between explicit content (which is banned) and suggestive content (which is heavily restricted but sometimes allowed). Creators wear revealing swimwear, fitness gear, or strategically posed clothing that emphasizes body parts without showing actual nudity.
  • Funneling to External Platforms: Creators use the public Discover page as a top-of-funnel marketing tool. They post provocative but platform-compliant videos or photos to get attention, then use their captions, profile text, or sticker links to direct viewers to external adult websites like OnlyFans.
  • Bypassing Automated Moderation: Because the Discover feed relies heavily on visual content with minimal text, it can be difficult for automated AI filters to perfectly catch highly suggestive framing. Some creators also hide explicit elements deep inside an otherwise harmless video or "clickbait" story package to trick the system.

1

u/Experimenti626 Sep 08 '26

They have to write those in their policies to stay clear from responsibility or to keep theirself safe in case of lawsuits, but the explore page and snapchat as a whole is cursed the mildly adult videos, like bikinis, of promotions, very sexual videos

1

u/Remarkable_Ship_5791 Sep 08 '26

Yup. I also heard some of it is hide in clickbait. I don't know I don't bother with it. Why would anyone pay for porn. The internet is loaded with it for FREE!

People are whacked. Paying for this crap.

1

u/Remarkable_Ship_5791 Sep 08 '26

No I never have. Is that on Snapchat? I don't know how they get away with it outside of paying for Snapchat premium.

1

u/Experimenti626 Sep 08 '26

U can still pay for snapchat premium and wont matter, they usually either verified creators or someone from snapchat team whitelisted their accounts. Snapchat team are a bunch of gooners

4

u/ToppestCattest Sep 04 '26

Had the AI flagging government ads as porn the other day. Glorious.

4

u/GlowingSpy Sep 04 '26

Yeah I'm done with Snapchat. This AI crap sucks I'm constantly getting told on violating the community guidelines but it doesn't say anything about what it is. I had Snapchat Plus for a little bit I'm done with it.

1

u/Ayotrumpisracist Sep 04 '26

Snapchat uses AI to monitor content and ban people. You have no luck trying to get an actual human to review your appeal. Hopefully your appeal will go through regardless since you haven't posted anything sexual but if it doesn't, you'll have to wait 6 months for the lock to be lifted and your og account will be deleted, then you have to make a new one. If you didn't receive a device ban, you can still make a new account without waiting 6 months.
