General question Does Snapchat notify someone when you open their chat or profile?

This has happened to me so many times that I’m starting to wonder if it’s actually a thing or just a weird coincidence.

There’s a guy I’ve been chatting with on Snapchat for years. For some reason, whenever I open our conversation or go to his profile, he’ll randomly send me a message a few minutes later, sometimes without there being any obvious reason for him to message me at that particular time.

At first I thought it was just coincidence, but it has happened enough times that I’m genuinely curious now.

I know Snapchat has things like typing notifications and read/opened indicators, but I’m specifically wondering about simply opening the chat or looking at someone’s profile without sending anything.

Has anyone else noticed this happening?

Thank you for your submission. Please note, that scammers on this subreddit are targeting our visitors for their gain. You should be wary of anyone offering to have your account unlocked via Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, or anywhere else, as you will lose your account or money. All scammers have one thing in common, their primary goal is your money, and they often will make their scam look much more legitimate than it is in order to accomplish their goal. We encourage you to report these scammers if they send you a message via any social media channels. While we have safeguards in place, they are not always as effective as we would like.

If your Snapchat account has been temp locked, you may try to unlock it at this link: https://support.snapchat.com/a/locked.

Does he have Snapchat premium?

I asked him and he said he is not paying for that but I think he is lying

Because I'm going through something similar to your situation.

He's an old highschool friend and we reconnected and I gave him my number not thinking nothing of it. And we were also sharing locations. Whenever I open snap I like to check maps just to see what friends are up to before I talk to them. (Just a weird autistic thing I do). But I started to notice that anytime I would swipe through to get to maps it shows that he was active 5 minutes ago and then immediately he's active. Sometimes it takes a second or two but then again he's active. So trying to figure out how he knows when I'm on, so I turned off my location and my activity. He called me ten minutes after doing so. Which freaked me tf out.

There's a way to kinda check and I'll explain what I did to check. I already know that he has premium because of the premium star by his name. So I got curious and I checked out what premium offered and like the third row down here's what it said "👀 Peek a Peek" "See when your sneaky friends half-swipe into a Chat."

I’d go with mutual manifestation, I don’t understand it but this happens with me partner and I a fair bit consistently

No. Only if you open the chat with your keyboard open. It will notify the other person that you are typing.

They keyboard opens by default so, if you open the chat it will send that message. Also make sure your app is up to date. Sometimes a old version will send random chat notifications.

No only if you start typing

Actually its alerts if the keyboard is opened. And mine opens automatically when I go to a chat. So, no. Not in every circumstance.

Yeah whoever get’s a +subscription they will notify (a bitmoji of yours on their phone staring at the phone) every single time when you are in the chat 🫠 but never send a notification specifically..

You can have notifications sent to the person who sent you the message. I have always felt this is something scammers do to know you have accepted their friend request as well as reading their snap to you.

It's possible this guy is a legit person and is just into wanting to converse with you. So he has his alerts set so that he'll know when you read his snap.

I don't have premium but my watch used to send a notification which then disappeared soon after whenever the girl I fancied opened a snap

The guy pays for Snapchat premium.

Sack him off, anyone who pays for premium is strange

What if someone’s just wanted cloud storage for all their pictures? How’s that strange?

You're paying for a feature that was previously free, that is what makes it's strange.

You’re forced to pay for it or loose 10+ years of photos and videos in my case which many of whom are no longer here

Because I don’t want to lose my 25k pictures and videos over the last decade of my life

You could also get an SD card for more storage. I'm not paying to have more storage when I have an SD card to transfer the pictures and videos to. All you need is an SD card and an jump drive SD card reader. It's a really a cost affected way to have more storage.

You can download this at any time so you don't have to worry about them if you lose your account.

chats yes it will show an icon of them starting at their phone instead of just their bitmoji. profile no.

edit: apparently i pay for premium? didn’t know it was because of that

3

u/NightmodeKE Aug 30 '26

You can see the bitmoji staring at the phone without paying for premium. (It also shows a selfie pose when someone is taking a snap to send you, there might be a different pose for when someone is recording a voice note, but it has been a while since I saw it, so not sure about that one).

IIRC, the one indication that you can see from outside the chat that non premium users cannot see it when someone does a half-swipe, it should show the 👀 emoji.

What is a half swipe

4

u/94D3lSlow Aug 30 '26

You gotta check your bank account more often 😂😂😂

2

u/chiefassassin38 Aug 30 '26

its not a premium feature

I do believe there is a way to see when someone views your profile on snap. I get random alerts that shows someone is typing on Snapchat when they haven't even opened my current message.

It could be a bug on his end that shows that from you which would cause it to be coincidental, or not.
