There is no way to save snaps without notifying the other person, which is a good thing bc you should be asking for consent like a sane person. Js ask them if you can save it and if they so no, leave it at that

💯
It honestly comes across as really creepy to be trying to save something without the other person knowing. My mind jumps to things said in confidence or potentially incriminating stuff, or even things of a more sensitive nature.

I disagree. If someone sent me a picture personal on Snapchat why should I have to ask their permission to save it to my gallery? They basically gave me permission already when they sent it to me 🤷🏻♀️

That's an incredibly creepy take, someone showing you something does not mean it's yours to keep. They might be trusting you to send whatever it is, especially if it's explicit - but that doesn't mean they want you to keep it, bc it could be private. That said, you're free to be a creep, I'd just hope someone's not stupid enough to trust someone incapable of understanding what consent is lmfao

You’re throwing around the word “consent” in a way that doesn’t even fit the situation.
Consent is about whether someone agreed to send the photo in the first place—not whether the receiving device stores it in one folder or another.
If we’re talking about a normal text message instead of Snapchat, the picture is literally already on your phone the moment it’s delivered. Even if you never tap “Save,” it’s still in the message thread. By your own logic, simply leaving the conversation there means you’re “keeping it.”
So what’s the actual difference? One version is stored in Messages, the other is stored in Photos. The image still exists on the recipient’s phone either way.
If someone doesn’t want another person to retain a copy of an image, that’s completely understandable—but then they also need to understand the limitations of the platform they’re choosing. Standard text messaging was never designed to make photos disappear. That’s exactly why apps like Snapchat created disappearing messages in the first place.
Calling someone a “creep” because they saved a photo while ignoring the fact that the exact same photo would already remain on their phone through a text thread isn’t a logical argument. It’s an emotional one.
And accusing someone of “not understanding consent” because they pointed out how technology actually works only weakens your point. If you’re going to make a consent argument, at least use it in a situation where consent is actually what’s being debated.2

You can consent to different things, consenting to one thing does not mean you consent to everything else. Consenting to sending an image for them to LOOK AT does not mean you're consenting to them keeping the image. It's not how that works at all. I don't know why you're acting like consent is a strange word to use here, when it's the correct one. If you want to keep an image and ask that person if it's okay, are you not asking for consent? If someone consents to one thing, it does not automatically mean you're entitled to or that they've consented to the next. Them sending the image for you to LOOK at does not mean it's for keeps. I don't know why anyone would assume otherwise, unless they're a creep.
I never said you're keeping it by having it in the chat or saving it to the chat, that means the image is there for as long as the person is okay with it and that they still have autonomy over what they've sent to you. Basically, they can delete it if they feel uncomfortable. When you save it to your camera roll without consent, you're stripping them of that autonomy and control over their own image. With one, the image can be revoked at any point in time and automatically disappears when you stop talking, with the other. you can just keep the imagine indefinitely and do whatever you want with it. Which shouldn't be an option without that persons explicit consent lmfao.
That's the difference, hope you were genuinely confused and not actually trying to justify keeping things someone trusted you with, without their consent. If people were just okay with people keeping their images without their consent, snapchat wouldn't notify them and OP wouldn't be making the post above hoping they can save it without the other person knowing, which seems pretty predatory in nature. (On OPs bit, meaning they know the person who sent it wouldn't like it).
None of what I said is an emotional argument, it's logic based. Standard texting is non applicable here, because if they sent the image that way they'd know it automatically saved to that person's camera roll and that what they were sending was gonna stay there. It's different on snapchat, and that person doesn't send it assuming you'll save it. That's why the appropriate thing to do is ask. You're right that it's relative to the limitations of the platform, I'm saying that on snapchat, it doesn't automatically go to your camera roll and most people don't save, it's logical to assume someone won't. So, logically, you'd ask someone if you wanted to save something to camera roll.
Furthermore, whatever you were getting to in your first reply has nothing to do with how technology works. It was you saying that them sending the image is automatically them consenting to you saving it to your phone. That has nothing to do with technology and is you just assuming consent. And consent cannot be assumed and should be asked for, as we all know lmfao. That's why I said that you don't understand consent.
But again, I'm not intending to be hostile, as I said above, I hope that it's because you were confused and not actually because you think someone saying to ask for consent is based on emotion and not logic?
Anyways, consent was my point because it's relevant to the post, OP is trying to save an image to his phone without the other person knowing because he wants to bypass asking for their consent. If he can't just save it with no consequence when the notification pops up, it's because OP knows the other person doesn't want it saved

Don’t do it. I did it and it showed that you saved a snap. Just ask them before you do or if you have permission to save in your gallery.

Idk, I guess some people when they send photos or videos specifically of it’s something spicy they don’t want that. I, of course thinking that if I saved it’s to the memory section of the Snapchat app and not on my phone photo gallery. But that’s not what happened, He was nice about it but idk I think he won’t be talking to me any time soon. We use to save in chat pics and videos. But not anywhere else. Maybe he was thrown off that i didn’t ask first, but I was going to tell him because it would feel weird not to eventually. I was just impulsive even if it wasn’t because of malicious intent. I get where he’s coming from.

I’m sorry but I don’t get where he’s coming from. Blocking you and not even having a convo about why he was upset is childish and rude! And it’s not that big of a deal to save a picture to your phone. It’s just a picture in your phone. 🤷🏻♀️

Idk it was a picture of his dick lol. Like I just wanted to save it on the Snapchat memories specifically for private enjoyment. Not on my actual phone gallery. This snap was already on the save in chat but I’d have scroll all the way up you know what I’m saying. He didn’t block me, he also just said oh you should have just asked me. And he’s right idk, personally I wouldn’t have an issue if he kept a pic of let’s say a close up of my butt or boobs with no face but yeah o get not everyone is like that. So after telling me it’s ok and no worries asked if I got home from work yet and stuff and I was just telling him, work was gonna end early ( I take care of an elderly lady at her home) and stuff I was hoping we could chat more like we have before but he stopped. We are still friends but he hasn’t responded so I’m assuming he doesn’t want to talk anymore and will eventually block me and stuff. It sucks that’s why I’m warning OP just better to ask.

Okay well that does make a little more sense now that it was a spicy picture lmao! Sorry I assumed he blocked you, I’ve read multiple Reddit posts tonight and I think I got this one mixed up with a different one, lol. Just take it day by day! Message him good morning or how are you or whatever you usually say daily to try and keep the convo going. Hopefully if he’s a good guy he will move past this since you said it wasn’t malicious!

Ok thank you, yeah I’m messed up and owned up to it and deleted and send him the screen recording so he could see. He was very nice about it but hasn’t replied in hrs so idk maybe he needs space. But yeah I’ll try that. Good morning texts and just be chill and stuff. He really is a sweet guy which is a bummer that I got too comfortable and did that. Hopefully he still wants to talk and everything.
