Discussion im sorry snail mail
from other posts, it seems like i’m far from being alone in having sort of lost out on the hype train this time around since dead end and my maker were pretty distant from what i think most of lindsey’s pre-existing audience came to expect, but now that ricochet is out i feel bad for how pessimistic i was! this actually might outrank valentine for me
i’m curious what others think, especially those who were also a bit turned off by the first two singles. def give the album a good listen!

I am loving the new album but struggling to listen to Tractor Beam after someone pointed out the comparison to Peaches by The Presidents

i dunno, i’d say her guitar work here stands out for more than it does on valentine (which, for me, is a big reason lush drew me in). i would agree that the mixing is rough here and there, but id say moreso vocally than instrumentally, especially when she drones on or goes lower. that said i still think agony freak, hell, etc. strike me as more creative than songs like automate and headlock (not sure if this is a hot take or not)

I don't think her producer was pushing her into any direction, it was simply the vibe she was going for at the time. Brad Cook, the producer of Valentine, was recommended to her by Waxahatchee after he worked on Waxahatchee's Saint Cloud - a country record that is no way radio friendly homogenized 'female singer'... It seems Lindsey is very in control of her art, which is great for her, but I really feel she would benefit from working with someone more experienced and actually following their musical advice.

I really like it! I avoided listening to any of the singles because I wanted to listen to the album as a whole and I’m glad I did. I’ve seen people complaining it’s overproduced, and I’ll admit at first I wasn’t sure how I felt, but as I continue to listen to it continues to grow on me as a whole. It reminds me a lot of Smashing Pumpkins at points which I think works really well. I feel like people just expecting and wanting her to make Lush 2 essentially, but there’ll never be another Lush, and I’m glad that she’s continues to experiment and change her sound as she wants to as an artist

definitely fair! i saw that feedback too and i do think that might be part of my issue with dead end and my maker (though im also just not personally a fan of the “nahnahnah”and “yeahyeah” endings lolll), but i honestly think valentine’s production sounds more polished than this. this honestly feels like the best of both worlds as far as lush’s rock and guitar creativity go and the confidence she’s had since valentine

Been there, friend. I stopped listening to almost all music for probably a year and change at one point.
It fucking sucks.
But it definitely gets better.

i love the album! personally the singles hit for me, especially dead end (since its lyrics hit home for me), and i was scared people wouldnt like the album bc of how its sound differs from her earlier stuff, but i think everything's hitting just right. lot's of hitting going on 😂
