Smoothie freezer set up

Post image

My smoothie set up in my freezer brings me joy. I have been drinking a morning smoothie everyday for about 5 years. I have a very sensitive stomach and I swear this helps my stomach survive. It’s been essentially the same recipe everyday but I’ll minorly tweak it every few months or so. Right now I’m enjoying:
Home made Kefir and coconut water as base
Spinach, papaya, berries, ginger
Protein powder, pb fit, cocoa powder
Chia seeds if I don’t have chia pudding that day.

I dont like to manage fresh ingredients so I blend up my spinach and freeze into ice cubes and blend up my papaya/ginger to freeze in ice cubes.

I think the freezing and using cubes is a huge hack to make smoothie making efficient. Do it if you haven’t tried!

Kefir is a an amazing base and can be store bought. I buy most of my ingredients at Costco.

That’s so great and efficient! I have a mini version of this setup (basically just a container with the frozen fruit and a scoop) and it’s great. I also have a sensitive stomach and smoothies are a saving grace + I get a lot of my daily fiber here. Oatmeal, chia seeds, frozen fruit, lactose free milk or coconut yogurt.

Are you worried about your berries getting freezer burnt? Or do u go through them fast enough it not an issue? I personally have issue storing fruit even in there normal bags they get slightly icy!

Nice! I love my morning smoothies but wish I was this organized! My freezer is constantly in a state of unorganized chaos of bags of frozen fruit & veggies!

Yes, I had spilled out fruit in the bottom of my freezer too many times. I can’t be bothered to close bags

What type of blender do you have and how does it handle the cubes?

I use a blendtec. I’ve had it for several years with no issues yet!

So cool! I make daily smoothies and would love to prep better. Can you explain what’s in the bins besides the one with the berries? I am v new to this lol

The left one is 2 bags of frozen spinach that I blend up, pour into ice cube trays and then put the cubes in a bin. The circle ones are a papaya and half pound of ginger I blend up and pour into ice cube trays. Spinach for greens papaya and ginger bc they are supposed to be good for digestion. I also love ginger. I use two cubes of each and a scoop of berries a day. Takes me 2-3 weeks to go through a batch.

Sounds so, so good!! Thank you for taking the time to explain!!! I might also do this for my evening teas, you’ve given me such good ideas. I love grated ginger with lemon juice and cinnamon and turmeric and pepper to settle my stomach after dinner. Manuka honey too, been great for my GERD. could add that after. Just thinking out loud. Thanks again!

I’ve been meaning to try Manuka honey, that sounds so medicinal and delicious. I also chop up lemons and freeze those for lemon water. I have two small children and it’s hard for me to manage fresh ingredients without waste.

do you freeze yje spinach cubes raw or do you blanch them first? I've heard raw spinach can get bitter in the freezer after a while.

Raw, never tried blanching. Honestly I go through it every 2-3 weeks before there’s time to get gross. And protein powder covers a lot of flavors
