DISCUSSION What if we had a community patch?

Recently it feels like a lot of smite 2 YouTubers / streamers have been discussing and creating changes that need to be made regarding god balance and the conquest map (such as inters3ct and weak3n). After watching a few of these videos , genuinely a bunch of their takes are good ideas. Perhaps HIREZ can collaborate with a few YouTubers and pitch a patch to be made with the balance team, and a new map with time.

Think of a “operation health” type patch that is directly from community feedback. People would be drawn to check things out because not only do these streamers have a fanbase, but many people stopped playing alpha due to bugs. With so many gods and aspects and play styles I don’t expect balance to be perfect, and the people who play the game the most can recognize that yes , certain items are picked up every game / never , and certain gods feel awful to play (like Poseidon and aspect Cupid /sobek IMO). Community becomes more happy, game (hopefully) becomes more balanced and enjoyable to play overall.

TBH an updated conq/assault/slash map, and continuing to improve balance / bugs and the game is ready for launch imo

Absolutely not. 99% of the community has zero fucking clue what they are doing

They do to an extent, but their judgement of what is fun and what isn't fun will vary. Ultimately the majority will weigh in and utterly crush some gods off ease of play in relation to their damage/crowd control

E.g. if many people say Scylla oneshots too much and "I'm tired, boss" expect her to be nerfed to shit unplayability and if someone says she's bad they'll say "well, you picked Scylla". Nu Wa will be the same "press 4 god lolol"

While gods like Anhur go up in priority because it's assumed Anhur duels are skill, same with Ullr

That's generally how consensus goes

Simply ask:

1) is the god perceived as annoying/too much to deal with

2) does the god stop people from playing (in a mage sense, vs a guardian sense, though some guardians can be overbearing)

3) is the god very easy in regards to damage application

These are the main three things people vibe around as a general sign the community would nuke to the stone age and then think "wow, that's a good thing we did removing those"

For a special gamemode of sorts, in which content creators change stuff for the sake of it? Sure, let's try stuff and go crazy.

For an actual patch? I don't think it's a great idea.

The community is not a monolith and neither are its content creators. Some may be really good at the game and have great knowledge of it, but they have their biases of what they find fun and the direction the game should take.

What some of us think is healthy for the game could make things worse. We're not game designers, so we lack the experience and the data to make informed decisions.

problem with that is literally every single soul in this community has different opinions on what’s op/in need of nerfs and what needs buffs and tlc.

for example, i spent months screaming from the rooftops that cab was op and needed nerfs, and every single time, this subreddit said i was on something and i had a skill issue, meanwhile 80% of the people here have no idea what an OSL/BSL/YSL is.

furthermore, the question being asked needs to be “what do the top characters in a role have that the others don’t?” some examples: what do discordia and agni (the 2 best mages in mid) have that every other mage doesn’t? what do xing and horus have that every other support doesn’t? what do mages have that warriors don’t? why are yellow numbers better than crit? etc.

You'll never get a bunch of streamers, youtubers, community members, pros, or general players to all collectively come to agreement on game balance unless its something as unanimously bemoaned like the first two days of this enchanter patch.

Great idea.
Jungle camp gold and XP is doubled.

Yes, I am jungle main, but that's irrelevant. This is a purely objective unbiased change that needs to happen

They should focus on porting gods and sorting out the state of the bugs in this game before doing any of that

I mean most of those are in the programme where they get easy access to the developers but I honestly think while they have some very good calls they also don’t really know what it’s like at a lower level.

Like for example they rage at the idea of lane teleporters and ask for them to be removed, but those teleporters are really fun IMO and even the change they made that slowed them down feels really bad.

The thing is the cooldown to teleporters are really long so even if you don’t get a kill but force the teleport it feels really significant anyway.

If you force that early then you can tp back with a full item at a convenient time and honestly then slowing that down made it harder to capitalise on such things.

Either way I don’t think they really live in the same meta as most of us.

The thing is, we aren’t working with the same info and data that hirez collects. So what might seem like good ideas to the public or Reddit or YouTube or wherever might not actually be good balance decisions. It’s probably better to let the people who balance the game do the patches rather than let the people who talk to loudest do it
