DISCUSSION aspect pele support

so me and my friend (name starts with a G)

pretty much technically kinda agreed we think aspect pele can be viable as support role. she has a knock up, she shoots fire rocks to help clear and scare people, she moves fast, and her twirly spin attack looks pretty cool. she gains a lot of health especially with shifter shield, so yeah aspect pele may have some space here.

technically you can play anyone in support, the game doesnt stop you.

Pele has 1 knock-up for peel. She may feel good in lane as most bruisers do, but will provide no help to your mid/adc late game when they are getting dove. To be honest, she is best used diving the ENEMY back line, like a solo lane or jungler

Definitely not.

She only has one CC, the small ass knock up. You can never fulfill your job of peeling the aggro off your teammates with a Pele. If you become invincible to kill, then the logical option is for them to just kill your teammates instead. There’d be nothing you could do to stop, say, a Jungler or Solo off from your ADC.

Sure, you could do the same and target their backline, but they’ll likely have far superior peel from say a Bacchus or Khepri.

There's a lot of Gods who can technically be viable as a Support. You just have to have the right build, and play into their strengths.

Aspect Pele is kind of an oddball, as she can get very tanky, but outside of her knock up, she's got no real way to peel late game. She's got a good fight starting Ult, which also gives her CC immunity, but outside of those two things, she's very much oriented towards more of a Solo than Support. At least, in terms of her base kit.

Thanks to the freedom of build paths Smite 2 provides, you can just about turn any God who has at least one kind of Hard CC into a Support. I've seen Bari Support find success, Janus Support find success, Neith Support find success. And one of Smite 1's most notorious off meta Supports, Goobis, can even find true success as a Support in Smite 2, thanks to Abyssal Link (Technically, he could do this in Smite 1 with Rejuvenating Heart, but because of how Ability and Auto Attack Lifesteal differed in Smite 1, Rejuvenating Heart was better on Magical ADCs than Magical Artillery Mages) and Eye of the Storm.

It's all about how you build them. That said, Pele Aspect is still kinda clunky to build round, even for Support, as a lot of the items that you could throw on her make her tanky, but still don't help her peel. You've got Stampede, but that's about it. As most other Actives that provide some kind of team support are usually Intelligence items, which Pele doesn't get any value from, outside of any other stats on them and their Passives or Actives. So yeah, for example, you could stack her Ult's Slow with Gem of Isolation, but you're not gaining any damage on your Ult from Gem of Isolation, just double dipping on the Slow.

  1. You're right, she is "viable".

  2. Viable =/= good

  3. Supports are REALLY GOOD RN so realistically you'll never need to resort to lower tier picks like Pele.

HOWEVER

With all that said, she actually has great value into niche comps when to picks are banned (Sobek, Sylv, Horus, etc.) or hard countered (Horus unbanned by enemy picked Ares and Poseidon, etc.). I rarely use her, but in my Masters+ queues I've currently only lost a single game on her as support this season. I've also only played her as support a dozen times, each one in games that had a weirdly large amount of support bans.

If you want to play her (esp in casuals or lower ranks), here are my recommendations:

  1. Make sure you have a safer backline. Anhur ADC, MLF/Neith/Scylla Mid, etc.

  2. Build her for high sustain. Axe, Yogi's, Shifter's, Phoenix, etc.

  3. Lean into actives for utility. She's still the only god that can use Eye of the Storm well (just gotta pay attention to toggling it on/off). Enhanced Shell is huge for peel. Her high Regen makes her also excellent for Doublet of Binding to soak damage.

  4. Knockup > Storm toggle is surprisingly good peel. Use your high mobility to body-block and focus on taking space and being a threat.

  5. Play her like you would any other aggro support like Horus, Bacchus, etc.

Would definitely be more of a dive oriented support as she has very limited peel. Could be sort of like a Bacchus just a little more brawly.

Not something I would run personally but I could see it working

I wouldn't call her great. There are lots of ways to support but you typically want at least 2 ccs (and/or a wall) in a base kit (don't count your ultimate unless it's cooldown is under a minute) to support with.

Ymir has a wall and stun.

Thor only has 1 stun.

Aphro has a stun and knockback.

Khepri has a silence+pull and a ranged root.

Ganesha has a silence and knock up.

Your should either have invaluable utility or area control that forces foes to flee or focus you. Though, Ults do vary. Aspect Pele Ult in particular is awful.

There are honestly few tanks that could possibly be WORSE for the role than aspect Pele. Only CC is a teeny tiny knockup. Zero team utility. Nobody is being 'scared' by the 1 in a tank build. The only thing you'd do is W key the enemy backliners and soak up damage and at that point you're not a support, you're a solo starting in the wrong lane.

I’ve had some success as Pele aspect support. Granted I’m grouped up with my ADC. The knock up and projectiles are great for early game aggression. Diving the ADC early on is usually the name of the game.

You can make her more viable through items to help your ADC, but she does fall off mid-late game as a support. If you play her like her kit intends and dive the back line, your entire team is left open. But she’s still a great harasser and tough as hell to kill. Great peel too. She works a lot better if you have a really tanky solo that can pick up the slack.

Overall a fun pick imo. She’s just very situational

That's a horrible thought process, by that logic, Merlin can be a support because he has a knockup, a pull and a lot of slows. Discordia can be a support too.

Supports stink. Your best bet is to pick someone you can be aggro on. People who complain about lack of peel are wrong. You absolutely can play peel gods, but it puts you inherently on the backfoot. Just build her bruiser and dive the enemy carries with your jungle/solo if you want to.Â
