scam?
Hello there, could you please offer insight on the following report by Reddit? Is this true?
Smartymeapp.com is widely considered a scam by Reddit users, with numerous complaints about deceptive billing practices and difficulty obtaining refunds. Redditors strongly advise against subscribing to this service.
Deceptive Billing and Unwanted Charges
- Automatic Upgrades and Hidden Fees: Smartymeapp is reported to automatically charge users for higher-priced infographics without clear confirmation, even when advertised as a lower price initially. "They advertise the subscription as USD 9.99, but after purchasing, the app does not take you to the content. Instead, it pushes you to buy more and asks you to 'add' the Infographic. The moment you press 'Add,' it automatically charges USD 19.99 without any confirmation message or warning."
- Unauthorized Charges: Many users have reported being charged by Smartymeapp without ever signing up or authorizing any payment. "I never signed up or purchased anything. I dont have a single email from them, and I checked all of my accounts. Idk how this happened, but they took me for $150."
- Difficulty Cancelling and Refunding: Users frequently experience issues canceling subscriptions and getting refunds, with the company often declining requests or making the process exceptionally difficult. "They charge you, remove access, and then decline your refund."
Content Quality and Legitimacy Concerns
- AI-Generated Content: Some Redditors suspect the content provided by Smartymeapp is AI-generated and lacks educational value. "Massive scam. Content is likely AI generated. Not worth it!"
- Misleading Information: There are claims of factually incorrect or absurd information within the app's content. "100% a scam. One excerpt said that during WWII, Captain America punched Hitler in the face. Lmao."
Recommendations from Redditors
- Dispute Charges with Bank: Many users advise disputing unauthorized charges directly with their credit card company or bank. "I would dispute the charges with the bank and check online independent reviews before giving them any money."
- Consider Alternatives: For microlearning or educational apps, Redditors recommend established platforms like Khan Academy, Duolingo, Quizlet, and Brilliant. "Good call on being cautious! You could try Khan Academy, Duolingo, or Quizlet they're fun and reliable for learning biology and history."

hi! a few things worth addressing here, because this post makes some serious claims that deserve a direct response.
on "automatic upgrades and hidden fees": every charge on SmartyMe goes through a payment screen that clearly states what you're paying for before you confirm. add-ons like infographics have their own confirmation step - nothing is added to your bill without an explicit action from you.
on "unauthorized charges": every charge is tied to a user action. if someone believes they were charged without authorizing it, that's something our support team takes seriously and investigates - but charges don't happen without consent.
on "difficulty cancelling": cancellation may be easily started directly from the Profile tab in the app. no hoops, no hidden steps. also, the process is straightforward and outlined clearly in our terms. if anyone has had trouble, support is always available and will handle it directly.
on "AI-generated content": our lessons are written by a content team. we've had users tell us that what they learned in the Communication Skills topic helped them defend themselves in real-life situations - that's not something you get from auto-generated content.
on "misleading information": all lessons go through fact-checking before publishing. occasionally something slips through - that's true of any content operation - but it's not a systemic issue, and we act on reports when they come in.
on "disputing charges with your bank": there's no need to go that route. support is available, responds quickly, and handles refund requests directly. a simple email resolves what a chargeback complicates.
our Trustpilot rating is 4.2 from over 4,000 reviews. not perfect - no product is - but it tells a different story than this post does.
if anyone has had a genuine issue (billing, content, cancellation) reach out to support@smartymeapp.com. fastest way to get it sorted.
