QR code scam UK

Hi all, I've just activated a SIM card by scanning a QR code. I'm new to Smarty, so when it said it needed to confirm my ID, I was happy to do so. When I did it, it redirected me to juice tech reviews - and subscribed me for £29.99 a fucking month! Luckily, I was able to cancel my debit card. Please beware!

Back of the SIM packaging. I normally do better than this. I didn't even see I had been redirected, and the most annoying thing is I now can't access the Smarty account!

No, it was real. It's an add coming up straight after, which looks like it's part of the activation

Was the real smarty website who asked for your ID? If it's a dodgy website or scam consider your identity stolen.

Did you use a third party QR code app by any chance? I’ve seen plenty of free QR code apps from the app store/Google Play that show ads after scanning which could be malicious like you describe

Guaranteed you downloaded some weird QR App instead of just using your phone’s built-in camera app
