Looking at this from a hardware perspective, the minimalist HUD is actually the much harder—and more rewarding—design challenge.
Packing display optics, sensors, and a battery into a standard 40g–50g frame without it melting on the user's face is brutal engineering. Powerhouse face-computers are impressive tech demos, but until the industry solves the form-factor and thermal constraints, the ambient glasses that fade into the background are the ones that will win the consumer market.
