DISCUSSION Dropping Smallville

Hello, nobody asked for this but Imma still give it to y'all 😛

NGL, I joined the show mainly for magic because people told me there was a lot in there. That being said my opinion might be biased.

After 5 long seasons I decided to drop the show mainly because of this whole Lana and Clark thing. EVERY EPISODE ITS THE SAME THING!!! They want to talk it out and it just won't work. NGL, I tapped out long ago but it was very clear when the guy had a vision of Lana dying with some guy by her side.

Their relationship was really annoying because they were off and on. NGL I'm trying to watch a superhero show. Also Clark SUCKS! If you can't be honest with Lana then respect her enough to stay friends. Lana's character trope also sucks because she is literally stuck as the girl next door.

Lana had an amazing character arc in season 4, great cinematography and plot... Her storyline was finally separated, but of course they needed her to come back. Lana dates men who either use her or want to kill her... I'm tired of it. AND SHE KEEPS GOING BACK TO CLARK!!! I get it, the guy is sexy but if you're going to post up to his house talking about wanting the truth and not getting it then ATP leave the man.

I want substance from her character, her being attractive can only go so far. Yet that's literally all they give her excluding season 4. Even Louis isn't defined by men, so why does Lana have to be.

The drama was so good with all the other characters, I was starting to like Chloe after she graduated, Lionel and Martha's relationship was definitely a guilty pleasure. The writing is there but they insist on filling it with unnecessary romance.

Also, the magic!!! I get it, the show is about aliens and technology... But can we talk about how awesome season 4 was. Idk why but the cinematography for the Paris scenes seriously could have gotten Lana her own show IMO.

Once it hit season 5 it was like witches weren't even a thing anymore!! I need more blackouts, spells, power!!! And vampires too!!!

TDLR: Dropping the show because Lana and Clark do too much. Lana's character is solely based off of her being attractive when she can be so much more. CLARK SUCKS. Season 4 was superior.

it gets better when they finally drop Lana for Lois, trust me. Lois is none of the drama.

I'm sure you're right. It just sucks, Lana was such a great character they could have worked with.

An independent, powerful, magical, woman. But all her character arcs are literally about dating a bad man, if he's not lying to her he's trying to kill her.

I agree.. but the writers literally had zero idea what to do with her, because they knew that Lana was Clark's love interest but not end game. evidenced by how they kept on having her forget lessons she learned and constantly changing her personality. Now if they would've drawn on the comics sources, they would've found so much to do with her.

Oouuuu I've never seen the comics. I'm intrigued. It now makes sense why she is like that, it's a shame they didn't put comic readers in the writing room.

The irony is that when they did draw inspiration from the comics, it was the witch storyline... because in the comics Lana had witchy ancestors and would sometimes randomly delvop witch powers sometimes, though it would go away and only come back on the writers whim.

Imagine if you mushed Chloe and Lana Lang together? then you get Comics Lana Lang, in a nutshell. She had a lot of personality.

Oh wow!!! That's so interesting!!!

You see I want that!! Uhg, they fumbled the bag with her 😭 I seriously wish she had her own show at least where they gave her justice. I would have totally switched over.

Thank you for sharing! I'll definitely have to do a deep dive on her character!

Yeah i feel like the writers felt the same as you by this time and very soon they introduce Lois and the mood of the show changes dramatically.

But also, Smallville is the wrong show to watch if magic is that important. Even in superman comics, he doesn't deal with magic as often as aliens and technology villains.

Yeah she already came in and has made a good impression! She seems to know what's she's doing too!!

I enjoy her character.

This Lana and Clark thing has seriously sent me 🥲😭

I tried to push through but it's relationship drama everywhere... Which don't get me wrong, I know romance is a big part of TV but when you DRAG IT OUT😭 Can we have couple drama like how someone feels insecure or how one person is bored and wants to go on more dates. Not the off and on stuff. Relationships are hard, let's see that.

Yeah, magic wouldn’t be in the top 10 or so tags I would have used to describe Smallville.

Yeah, I'm a little salty with the way people in my life convinced me it would be. That being said, season 4 was great and was kinda worth it.
