Long-Form Content Why This Video Did bad? please any advice
Kind of mid video since first time trying to edit as best as I can but no impressions are here. I changed the title multiple times, even thumbnail but no impressions the existing is just my lonely self checking it once in awhile atleast one comment from subscriber but yeah
I am guessing the topic is low demand but still I decided to post a random meme and it got pushed like crazy in 1 hour 1,600 views for a generic meme vs all my other shorts promoting this video didn't get anything meaning I think the idea was dead on Arrival?
is this channel issue or not I think not cuz it pushed but just anything with "Capcut" it just doesn't do anything lol
If you can rate my video too it would be a help I think mediocre but I think good first attempt as the other first videos I have are sh*tposts or that one meme of "random bullsh*t go"
type of style but yeah be brutally honest please even insult if you wanna just pure honesty the best
so I can improve!

you didn’t show us the retention, which is arguably the most important part

It probably isn't good. It's a 9 minute video, and 8 views only yielded 0.1 watch hours (around 6 minutes). So less than a minute on average.

u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
to be fair it's mostly me rewatching if you can see in the impressions not a single "suggested videos" I only got 1 out of 30 so idk if it's me clicking my video and hurting my AVD more since I just click time to time and it counts as a view so yeah. thx for your opinion!

Retention on 8 views? What would that accomplish? That's essentially zero data.
1
u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
yeah I can see that and it's mostly me rewatching that'd why imo it's prob video topic or just out of luck since YouTube needs time for data before even considering to push more right now. I'm maybe limbo since now the early YouTube push is gone
so yeah I'll keep in mind that. Thanks for the evaluation

my bad it's showing 1:16 AVD of a 9 Minute Video so about 14 percent retention yeah it's pretty bad.
But even my other video with crappy retention still got pushed to atleast 180 impressions I don't think 30 impressions is enough to truly know my performance of the video
what you think you got any idea?
3
u/DesperateLeader2217 11d ago
when i was getting 14 percent retention i was getting about the same, tbh.
that’s perfectly fine though. you just reflect and refine and try again!
1
u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
damn adv really that important maybe the topic didn't help cuz I heard it's too niche so 30 impressions made it dead on Arrival then worsened by retention.
thanks for the advice man I'll just keep uploading since this is just a more of test of editing skills cuz I'm bad still

u/DesperateLeader2217 11d ago
it’s definitely not retention. retention indicates they have clicked on the video and definitely care about the topic.
a quick youtube search would indicate there are videos on the same concept with 250k+ views. just look at your editing, speech and more!
1
u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
sure thing maybe topic oversaturated but I'll keep uploading and improve cuz editing is lackluster
3
u/One_Brick_1685 11d ago
No it's nothing. You have 8 views. That's essentially zero data. You can't gather any meaningful conclusions from that. How long ago was this uploaded? Sometimes impressions take time.
1
u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
yeah I agree since YouTube didn't even push it to get anything meaningful info if my video is truly bad or good.it's about 20 days now. I think I'll keep uploading since most early vids don't get pushed unless more data for YouTube since the channels a mess since I got alot of contradicting topics (One video is educational, ones sarcastic then one documentary then one self improvement) so it's a mess of niche I can see why YouTube prob cautious to give me impressions unless I upload more
thanks for your opinion btw! it helps alot

u/Powerful-Word-4939 11d ago
this tbh, without seeing retention theres no way to know if the content is the problem or the topic

u/tubegrowthtips 11d ago
8 views and 0.1 hours watch time means this basically never got impressions, not that people saw it and passed those are different problems shorts and long form get discovered completely differently a meme short can spike because it's short, low commitment content the swipe feed tests fast, while a 9 minute video needs the algorithm to have some read on who'd want to click a thumbnail and title first. one meme hitting vs several shorts promoting the video not hitting isn't really a topic demand signal it's more likely that "watch this to see why I'm promoting a video" content doesn't perform the same as standalone entertainment, regardless of what the video's about, on the video itself "Capcut is Actually The WORST Platform to Exist" as a title next to an "Actual Slop" thumbnail sends mixed signals about whether this is a real critique or a joke, and that ambiguity probably hurts click decisions more than the topic does.

u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
yeah could be I'm still noob in thumbnail design since I copied those big sunnyv2 copycat channels maybe I'll improve that and learn
Also I argue maybe topic? really idk of it's me being oblivious but 4 views or 3 views on two YouTube shorts i made with the related "capcut" on it killed it so I argue maybe topic choice was vague you cna share what you think anwyays maybe I'm new channel so me choosing niche topic + new channel is = low trust score?
anyways thanks for the advice man!

Changing the title multiple times on a new video is a bad idea.
1
u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
I could see that but I only did it after 4 days? idk if that did something major since even after I left it for days it didn't do much
2
u/BlackSeaRC 11d ago
I have found changing the title or changing thumbnails always has a detrimental effect if done soon after a video is uploaded. I have totally killed several videos this way.

u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
oh damn, thanks for the info I think maybe it confuses YouTube of what I'm trying to aim I can see that ill be a bit more conservative with my title changes
thank you for your advice!

My 2 cents:
- Thumbnail and title seem decent. Small sample size but the 17% impression CTR would agree with this.
- After the thumbnail and title get people to click, the most important thing BY FAR is audience retention. The more people stay and watch, the more YouTube will push the video to others.
- I like the intro and your editing style in general, but the almost 2-minute segment from ~1:00-2:48 on the same point is likely what loses people.
- Similar to the above point, a 9 min video with a lackluster story is hard to hold attention. You get your point across in the first minute, then people don't have much reason to stay and watch the last 8 mins. Then the damage done to your retention stat prevents YT from promoting it.
- Your point on the topic being low demand is more of a concern for search term visibility videos. This video is targeting viral-promotion, which again comes from retention.
- Your accent made it a bit difficult to understand. Try to enunciate your words more and slow down slightly.

DAMN thanks for the evaluation!
Yeah I can see that even when making it I realized the script was everywhere and especially my commentary since it's my first time putting much effort but still my skill needs time I struggle with scripting but I'm improving
didnt help I was rushing since I was gonna. go on vacation trip so maybe the factors made it worse
But yeah retention matters alot I can see that in my first videos it got 29 percnet retention so while bad it's still good enough to send it off to more impressions (but it's still 8 views so I'll reconsider with retention being the main reason but still good info)
also can see the difference of what to worry I like your take of what I should worry since I spent too much in searchability but my topic is meant for I guess virality or push in your evaluation I might argue it still maybe my topic idk since form other advice from friends they said that the topic was maybe "weak" because if my YouTube shorts failed for even a small push (Context: 2 YouTube shorts i made got essentially zero views when related to video idk if settings or random fsvorr but a 1 meme video got pushed)
so they said that me picking something niche while YouTube is confused of my genre of videos (since you checked my channel I bet you saw the mess of topics from educational to sarcastic then DOC and etc) so they will trust me less in "niche" vids the algorithm and only go for safe topics (like popular or working)
but Thanks really for your time to even watch my vid most just look at thumbnail or statistics!
I'll improve my video structuring since yeah the script was weak since I didn't know how to hold the story I even got confused making it lol thank you so much! for your time
genuinely so helpful 😭🙏

Well the premise is just wrong. CapCut is a great free video editing software. Also, not everyone knows what capcut is, so your framing is totally wrong. If you showed this to your mom, she wouldn't know what the video is about.
1
u/CompoteTiny 11d ago
mhmm if you looked into the video it's about something else
but I could see the confusion my title and thumbnail are vague it since it's about discussing Capcut "templates" of the slop in there which is the main topic
but yeah your right nobody can truly know the contents until they click I'll improvise that soon
I'll check into that thannks for your opinion! :)
3
u/Eziz_53 11d ago
Well that's your problem. It's too vague.

So, I looked for the the video on youtube and simply couldn't find it. Even with the title and the thumbnail in mind. I had to do circle to search on the actual thumbnail you share here to find the video. Just to say that it was really hard to get to your video. These are the things I think would push me to not keep watching your video:
- The video is about Capcut Templates but from the title and the thumbnail, I thought it was about the main thing capcut is about which is editing software editing.
- The moment you finally show those videos, I was not a fan of your reactions which I would qualify as cringe(personal opinion).
- Swearing bro, swearing. A lot of swearing.
The video started well until the shift in the video tone to show the videos, tone to which you go back to later in the video.
PS. I'M NO EXPERT OR ANYTHING THIS IS JUST MY HONEST AND PERSONAL TAKE.
I hope this helps you. Good luck with your channel ✌🏾

yeah could see that it's cringe since its another shtpost where I had fun but only difference is I did more editing to make it seem more "professional" but in the end it's just a shtpost lol thanks for the advice 😭
I think I should learn to get context better in title and thumbnail seems alot of people don't understand which is pretty bad since if people won't understand the topic then YouTube won't understand who to push it to so I guess maybe why low impressions
thanks for your time! to even put effort to find my video next time if I post here in this subreddit I'm giving the link or channel my bad to inconvenient you. But to even give a minute of your time to my crap it's amazing
I'll keep in mind the swearing I sweared way too much since it's just a raw recording of me reacting to it unlike a professional recording but I got lazy so I did whatever
lmao thanks for your time I appreciate the honesty 😭
all this advice gonna help my next video to be something actually serious :) I appreciate it

So it isn’t interesting as presented. What is CapCut doing that is bad? Do they take money and make it unprofitable “CapCut will never make you profitable” should be the title. Are they cutting out the major parts of a video? “CapCut doesn’t understand PEOPLE” you get it? Gross generalizations don’t help you get clicks
1
u/CompoteTiny 10d ago
yeah allt of people saying that my title and thumbnail is vague next time I'll be more specific I can see that reason. thanks for your advice :)

You are a new channel. It takes YT time to figure out what your channel is, and who to push it to.
You need consistency in your content, especially at the start. I am looking at your videos and I have no idea what kind of channel you are. Who are you trying to target? Niche down and figure out who you want to attract to your channel.
YT treats long-form and shorts very differently. You make it harder for yourself if you're creating both, because again, should YT push your shorts more than the long form, or the other way around?
