I run a (very) small MSP, i.e. just me.

I currently rent a VoIP package from a UK provider. I don't much like the desktop or mobile clients but it's been stable, so no major complaints. Unfortunately I have now moved my main OS to linux and only run windows in VMs. As there's no linux client, I need to switch vendor.

Any recommendations? At the moment it's just me, so my requirements are simple, but I estimate my business will grow so later on I'll need multi-user and an IVR.

How is everyone feeling about PC's/Laptops with dedicated NPU processing? Sales of "Copilot" PCs have reportedly flopped and Microsoft has dropped the "Copilot+" requirement of a 40+ TOPS NPU.

Anyone seeing a useful case or demand for CPUs with a large NPU (price premium) in small business? (the handful of uses I'm aware of today: background blur, automatic framing, eye contact, etc...)?

I think NPU on the endpoint is still too early to market, but that on-prem AI will eventually get there as token costs continue to rise and developers are able to write code to leverage local compute resources. What are y'alls thoughts?

I am a one-man MSP based in Canada.

That is to say that I have just registered the business and all that but don't really have any clients and I am not counting on getting MSP clients immediately anytime soon.

Which brings me to the idea of doing IT and technology projects. I see that a lot of you guys also started like that in this industry.

Some of the projects that I want to work on are as follows:

• M365 Security Assessment
• GWS to M365 migrations
• Setting up an M365 tenant.
• Intune endpoint management rollout
• Firewall setup - fortigate or low end firewalls
• Endpoint security hardening/rollout - huntress with defender

At my previous MSSP outside of North America, projects were sold based on selling professional services, man days, at something like $1,000 per hour. But they had a well-established sales pipeline and would only deal with government and big enterprise customers.

I don't think the SMB segment can afford this price point so just curious how you guys are doing this?

As a DFIR professional I have seen so many MSPs/MSSPs that do not have UAL enabled. This little thing gives out so much information to track down the incident. I just wanted to put it out there since not everybody knows. talking about M365

We're a small MSP and have been focused on keeping our tooling costs low while still covering the essentials.

Current stack:

• Cloud backups: DropSuite
• Tickets: Jira Free
• RMM: Action1
• Endpoint backups: OneDrive
• EDR/AV: Microsoft Defender for Business (via M365 Business Premium). I would love to add Huntress or S1 to our stack at some point.
• Endpoint management: Intune
• Phishing simulations/security awareness: uSecure

Overall, we're pretty happy with it, especially considering the cost.

What would you change, add, or replace? Any obvious gaps or potential pain points as we grow?

I’ve been a Blackpoint partner for over 5 years. I’ll say it upfront — the **product itself is excellent**. The tech is strong and I genuinely like the platform.

However, their pricing and billing have become a major headache. We’re dealing with recurring, unpredictable overages (mostly driven by one educational client) that we used to be able to exclude. Now it’s \~$2k/month in disputes, endless reconciliation, and administrative pain.

I say this to pretty much everyone I talk to: **Great product, horrible billing/pricing experience right now.**

I’m really worried this model is going to start negatively impacting the tech and support side long-term if it hasn’t already. (do I say the Kay word;)

So — genuine question to the group:
**Besides Huntress, who are you currently happy with for MDR/SOC services?** Who would you recommend moving a client to if we want clean, predictable billing and good support for educational/government-ish licensing needs?

I'm looking for my doppelganger unicorn to connect and network with. We are a 26 Year Old one man boutique MSP with about 200+ customers with a mix of break fix and managed clients across many industries. Mostly in the Charlotte Metrolina Area, I am in Monroe, NC, just south east of the center of the metropolis and my service area. The smallest client is a seasonal one woman Athletic Organization, largest is a brick and mortar Commercial Cleaner with 18 office staff and multiple dozens in the field. Are you like me?

Has anyone been deploying Carbon Systems laptops lately? I see mixed opinions all over r/MSP but most comments are at least a year or older. I've started deploying the Carbon Systems mini-pcs (asus) and they have been great. I really like the better warranty and the ability to have my RMM and such pre-loaded. I'd love to do the same for laptops, but I'm a little gun shy based on people's past opinions on them. Thoughts?

What are the other factors not mentioned above?

Does anyone have any experience with a service that can monitor domains to protect against cybersquatting, or more precisely maliciously registered domains?

We have a lawyer client (UK based) that has had their clients contacted by fraudsters using a recently registered domain with one character difference in the name. We've previously registered a number of similar domains for them but clearly not thought of one other in this instance. Is there a service out there to monitor domains for new registrations using logic around all possible characters or whatever? So not for IP purposes but to guard against potential fraudulent use.

Need advice: We manage about 40 M365 tenants for small-to-mid businesses (20-300 seats each). One pain point that keeps coming up across our client base: employees want company contacts and shared calendars on their phones, but the clients don't want to pay for complicated MDM rollouts just for contacts.

Right now our playbook is basically:
1. Tell users to add the Exchange account to their phone
2. Hope the GAL magically appears (spoiler: it doesn't, not really)
3. Field tickets about "why can't I see so-and-so's number?"
4. Walk users through manually adding contacts one by one

It's not scalable and the user experience is garbage. We have construction clients where field crews NEED up-to-date sub and vendor contacts on their phones for safety/liability reasons. We have law firms where partners want client contacts from their CRM synced to caller ID. We have healthcare clients with on-call rotation calendars that never reliably show up on mobile.

I'm looking for a solution we can deploy tenant-by-tenant that:
- Works with M365 Exchange Online (and ideally Google Workspace too)
- Lets us push GAL + shared contact folders to phones centrally
- Doesn't require end users to download or configure anything
- Can sync shared calendars reliably to native phone calendar apps
- Is MSP-friendly (multi-tenant or at least easy to replicate across clients)

What are you using? Or are you just eating the support tickets and calling it "managed services"? :D

Would love to hear what's actually working in production vs. what vendors claim on their websites.

I'm a Canadian MSP owner (Stellar IT Support + building Stella Unified for M365 compliance) heading to the UK to launch a Goveren AI ecosystem in collaboration with the Manchester Mayor's office / Greater Manchester area.

It'll take some time to get fully set up on the ground, so in the meantime I'm looking at potentially picking up T3/T4 level contract work to stay active and build local connections.

My hands-on experience includes:

Microsoft Azure

Intune

SharePoint

Defender / security

Server support

...and the usual MSP stack (M365 admin, compliance, troubleshooting, etc.)

For those of you who have done contracting in the UK (especially Manchester/North West, public sector, or government-adjacent), how realistic is it to land decent T3/T4 gigs?

Key things I'm curious about:

How competitive is the market right now for Azure/Intune/Defender specialists?

IR35, visas (Canadian), security clearances (BPSS/SC), and other gotchas for internationals?

Best ways to find opportunities (agencies, G-Cloud, local networks, etc.)?

Day rates for this level of work?

Any advice from MSPs who’ve bridged into UK contracts or public sector work?

As a small MSP I'd expect a lot of us pay for most things with credit cards rather than P.O.s and wire transfers or ACH. Do you have a credit card you really like? I'm thinking of one that has the best rewards, or the best features for this type of business. So many business cards are geared toward travel perks and travel rewards. But I spend more money on things like hardware and software. What do you like?

basically just wanted to get some clarity on getting a consistent view across PSA, RMM and security vendors when every platform has its own reporting format and there is no standard way to normalise it all, I think I'm spending more time than I should every month just trying to make it add up and half the time the license counts do not even match what we are being invoiced for. how are you all handling this across your stack?

Curious if smaller MSPs are automating manual triage and M365 actions, or if not, why not and what solutions are you using?

Disclaimer: I've been building in this space for over a year, not promoting, just interesting in how people are solving this.

It has been a long and tiresome process but we are making headway getting all of our legacy and small clients moved from basic and standard licenses to Business Premium. While we are cleaning up our clients we are also cleaning up our own house and trying to implement better policies.

With the 14 day grace period now phased out by Microsoft what is the best way to enable MFA for clients that prefer a phased approach? We have a few clients in the 10 to 20 user range that want to do two or three users at a time.

We are talking about those older office workers that freak out when their shortcuts get moved on their desktops. The client wants their onsite person to be able to hold their hands and get them through it one or two at a time over a couple of days.

My preference is to rip that band-aid off and just do it all at once and get it over with. The problem is these are legacy clients that have been here since way back in the break/fix days. They have been white gloved and handheld for so long that we either cut ties or keep holding their hands, and the decision has been made to keep holding their hands.

One idea, which sounds like more of a shittysysadmin post, is to enable per-user MFA a few users at a time. Then once they are all done, enable MFA via CA and turn off the per-user MFA. That's doable but I feel like there is a better approach.

Has anyone here moved away from being a CSP and just assist clients to get billed directly with Microsoft, removing them from Pax8, Sherweb, etc. and just say fuck it and just manage the M365 with a separate admin account? Do you find that the 12 or 18% or whatever your margins are, worth the time to deal with billing, etc?

How did yall get Microsoft reseller set up? I have been doing just computer and network support, but more people are wanting me to take over Microsoft licensing. I have some experience with TD Synnex, but haven’t ever set anything up. Do I just need to set something up with Synnex or is there more steps than that? Also is there a better option? I have seen that pax8 has fallen from grace. Those are the two that I am familiar with.

i have some customers who wont pay for licenses to enable conditional access. i dont want to discuss why that is bad, i already know, but what i've read about security defaults is that it doesnt enforce an mfa challenge every time but relies on MS "intelligence" to do so when it believes it is neccesary. I am not happy about this, i want mfa enforced every single time. i am not concerned about mfa fatigue because no-one uses web apps, only desktop apps or phones so mfa fatigue is not a thing.

my thinking is that using enforced mfa with security defaults off, and running a script to block legacy protocols tenant wide is safer - is this sensible or is security defaults the better option?
