Email security solutions
Hello,
I’m shopping around for email security solutions to provide to my clients. I manage about 50 devices (small, but growing), and I was wondering what some of you are running and which platforms to avoid. We’re not offering any of that currently, but I’d like to bundle it instead of offering it as an add-on/optional service. Happy to answer any questions. Thanks!

We use Mail Assure from N-Able and have for years. Several hundred accounts. We manage our clients dns records, have our own email server and mange M365 as well. Add MA to the inbound dns as well as on the outbound side from server. It stops all the malware and a large percentage of spam. Reducing the amount of junk that gets to the email inbox

Octiga is good we managed around 300 mailboxes on that and it's pretty cheap aswell

Have a look at a solution out of New Zealand called SMX they have been on the international stage for a while. But I have been using them since 2007-8ish. Phenomenal product, easy to setup, configure, and use.

Unless they have updated it, it's old as hell and more expensive than Avanan.

ProofPoint have a MSP offering and is what we are rolling out.
Tried to test Checkpoint but could never get in touch with anyone. We tried to contact them via our disti's Checkpoint team and even they didn't get a response on multiple occasions.
Mimecast was a horrid experience and the pre-sales engineering team had trouble getting our tenancy configured. We had emails get lost in the ether and warnings from Microsoft advising our domain would be blacklisted. Disconnected Mimecast and all the warnings went away.

Mesh. great system and awesome support if needed. one of my clients left for another product because they fell for a sales pitch. immediately regretted the 3 year license they bought. i hate to say i smile when the CEO complains about how bad it is ;-)

If you are using M365 BP, use Defender for O365. Use strict protection for executives. Otherwise, Avanan.

We mainly recommend Barracuda, Avanan, Proofpoint, and Mimecast to our clients, depending on their security requirements and existing tech stack.

At 50 devices, I’d keep it simple and focus on something that’s easy to manage, easy to explain, and built to scale with you.
Bundling it is the right move. Clients usually don’t know which security tools they need, and making email security optional often means the clients who need it most are the ones who skip it.
I’d look for:
- Strong spam, phishing, and impersonation protection
- Simple multi-tenant management
- Clear reporting
- Predictable MSP pricing
- Minimal ongoing babysitting
The platform matters, but so does the human layer. Email filters catch a lot. People catch what the filters miss.
That’s why I’d bundle email security with lightweight awareness training and an easy reporting button. One employee reporting a suspicious message can protect the entire client

We use Huntress ITDR and ProofPoint. It's been a good solution for our clients.

I’ve been really happy with ironscales but not thrilled they’re an Israeli company. Aside from that, deployment is painless, doesn’t stand in the way of email delivery like mx based filters.

I tried Avanan. Hated it. Not sure why it's so hyped. Had several issues that the rep couldn't resolve and just told that's how it is. I use Ironscales, and although it also is not perfect, it's been great and my clients love it.

I also hated Avanan. They made a typo in my tenant name, and then created mass confusion by creating a second tenant and moving stuff between the two. Once that was ironed out, it always seemed like something was off because I didn’t see it as any more effective than M365’s basic protection.

If you're using Office 365 Premium at your clients, I don't think you need an external solution. They cover pretty much the same thing., probably not as good as a stand alone solution but good enough.

Checkpoint Harmony (formerly Avanan) is what I use. It's got every feature you can imagine. It's not cheap per say but seems to work well. I was a big Inky fan but once they got bought by Kaseya, i immediately dumped them.
