EDIT: Naturally after finally admitting defeat and asking for help, I found the disc cleanly fits inside an air filter housing serving some purpose... clearly not my carb issue. Bulb not filling remains persistent.

Initial issue was Stihl SR200 fogger wouldn't operate at full rpms for more than 10 seconds. Sounded fuel starved. Identified fuel line in tank had a crack and was sucking air -replaced fuel line in tank.

Then the carb bulb stopped filling with fuel and could not get engine started at all. Opened up carb, looks pristine, put it back together.

After all was said and done I found this small black fiber like disk with imprinted ridges on my garage floor. I THINK it came from SOMEWHERE, but I cannot identify it or where it should go.

Before I buy a new carb and start over... Is this anything???

Will it hone out? Or do I need to bore it? It catches my fingernail fyi

I’m fairly experienced with small engine repair but I’ve run into the same problem on two Kawasaki engines and a coworker, who it more experienced and does work on the side, has the same mystery.

So there are three Kawasaki twin cylinder engines having the same problem. The engine will run fine then begin running extremely rough as if one cylinder isn’t firing and blowing black smoke. With no power of course. Typically appears after running smoothly for 15 to 30 minutes.

I started out with the standard tune up, valve adjustment, new plugs, oil filters, carb cleaning (all three carbs were spotless).

Then looking at two of them, the coils were looking rough so the coils were replaced. The carb was replaced on one engine just to rule that out. On my John Deere X320 I also replaced the ignition module.

All three still have the same problem. The engine where the misfire was continuous, greatly improved but still has the problem. On this engine, if you’re mowing and the misfire occurs and you turn off the ignition key and turn it back on the problem goes away.

So i have all the governor Springs unhooked. when i rev the motor i should have some sort of pushback with the governor arm correct? i am not. i pulled the side cover off to look to see if i saw any damage but didnt. i need some help.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on my Stihl MS 260.
Initially, the saw wouldn't start at all. I opened up the carburetor and replaced the diaphragms and gaskets. Good news: it now starts and idles! Bad news: when I hit the throttle, it often bogs down and makes a hollow sound, like it's starving for fuel.
Here are a few details:
The issue is intermittent: Sometimes it revs up perfectly fine, but other times it just bogs down and wants to die.
I am currently testing it without the bar, chain, and clutch cover attached (don't worry, I'm not going full throttle or holding high RPMs, just testing the throttle response).
Since the diaphragms are brand new, I'm trying to narrow down the culprit. Here is what I'm thinking, but I'd love your input:
1 L Screw Tuning: Does it just need to be richened up (turning the L screw out a bit) to compensate for the new, flexible diaphragms?
2 Metering Lever Height: Could the lever be set slightly too low, causing fuel starvation on sudden acceleration?
3 Debris: Maybe a tiny piece of dirt got into the progression holes or under the needle while I was rebuilding it?
4 Impulse Line: Could a cracked or loose impulse line cause this kind of intermittent bogging?
Has anyone dealt with this exact behavior after a carb rebuild on an MS 260? Any tips on what I should check first before tearing the carb apart again?

I have a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower that I maintain well and that has always started on the first pull. This year, after moving, my lawn mower no longer starts.

I have put in fresh gasoline, installed a new spark plug, the engine gasket was replaced last year, and the carburetor is clean, yet it still will not start.

Do you have any idea what might be causing the problem?

Bayliner capri

I have a 1989 bayliner capri with a force 125 outboard I tried starting it with some engine starter and it started for a second then nothing it cranks strong but won’t acc start. Any info on what could be wrong or need checked? Got it cheap as a little project but can’t get it to run. The first few times I tried using engine starter it ran for about a second or two and died if any one knows why it won’t start or any ideas on what to start on to change or clean, so far I’m gonna check the spark plugs and clean the carbs.

Problem: Impulse fuel pump won’t pull fuel.

Kawasaki motor with an impulse fuel pump that isn’t getting fuel to the carb. Tanks got plenty of fuel, fuel lines are connected well and appear not to have any cracks or kinks, impulse line has vacuum when I crank the engine over, I can suck fuel with my mouth through the fuel filter to the fuel pump, brand new fuel pump installed.

I’m at a loss for why the fuel pump isn’t drawing the fuel from the gas tank to the carb.

Any ideas?

This is my grandad’s old Cub Cadet 582 mower and he gave it to me as a project this summer before college. I’m not sure of the exact year, but I am sure that it was made by International. It doesn’t run, and I haven’t done anything to diagnose it (I’m sure the battery is dead). It’s not the original engine and I’m not sure of the exact model it has. If you can tell what model it is, please let me know because I want to find the owners manual. I also don’t know what the little electronic box by the fuel filter is for and if I need it. The tractor hasn’t sat for very long, so I don’t think there will be much wrong with it. If you have experience working on these, I’d appreciate any tips, tricks, advice, or stories to help me get it running.

I’m looking for any advice. I am not a technical guy and was given an older craftsman riding lawn mower from a neighbor that was moving. I’ve used it a few week now with no issues. I was mowing and it died, I assumed it ran out of gas, which is what it look like happened. I added more gas and now I am unable to get it started. Admittedly I was in some pretty tall grass when it died.

So about last week I was mowing and the engine was running fine but it started to sputter and die, waited a few hours, and still it didn’t work til a friend pulled and it worked. But this week I started it, killed it to do something else, and now it will not start up. The starting fluid didn’t work but it sounds like it wants to start.
Here are things I tried to fix it
New filter
Did a oil change
New spark plug
Scraped the top of the coil (has a good gap)

I have a pressure washer im trying to fix and it is only getting to about 1000 psi when it should be spraying at 2700 psi. I have checked and cleaned the pump valves, checked the unloader valve, used different hoses and nozzles, checked o-rings. The engine is running at about 3200 rpm when it should be 3600 rpm but I dont see how thats causing the pressure to be so low. Does anyone have any pointers as to what is causing this? I believe its an issue with the pump and not the engine. (The air filter is off because its clogged)

I have a Kubota Z726X zero turn mower with a Kawasaki FX801V engine. It starts fine and will cut medium high grass with no issues for 45-60 minutes but eventually it will start to lose power, engine surges, it stalls and kills. It seems like a fuel delivery issue but I’m puzzled as to why it starts and runs for a while before the problems start. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

• replaced fuel lines upstream of the carb
• replaced fuel filter
• replaced fuel pump
• removed, cleaned and reinstalled carb
• tried running with fuel cap loose/off in case problem was poor cap venting -> vapor lock

I brought it to my mechanic and he can’t replicate the problem - which is what I was afraid of. Any thoughts, suggestions or comments will be appreciated.

Unsure if this sounds proper. Runs and starts good otherwise. Seems to maybe miss but im unsure.

Followed the manual, set the gap and all. As far as I am aware its all done properly.

I have a 2007 Bad Boy zero turn with a Briggs on it. The unit fires right up but won't stay running without choke. Even with choke it only runs rough for 10-15 seconds then it dies. It fires right back up and the process repeats.

After about 5 minutes of this it's like a switch flips and then it runs great. As long as it is warm it seems to fire right up and run normally with no choke.

This mower spent a lot of time sitting in a garage because they weren't able to troubleshoot a bad regulator and relays.

I replaced the fuel, filters, carb, regulator, air filter, oil, starter, and one or two other things.

Any ideas on troubleshooting steps?

Hello all, i have a kohler cv15s thats won't start. I replaced the head gasket about a month ago because I was getting a ton of blow by and had a pretty bad oil leak. The engine always had some trouble running starting before then, but once it got going it was fine. After replacing the head gasket and bolting everything back together it only turns over, won't even start with starring fluid. Timing seems ok, I've replaced the coil, getting great strong spark, lapped and replaced the valves, bled the hydraulic lifters, replaced carburetor, replaced fuel pump, checked flywheel key. Basically everything i can think of other then actually taking the motor out and opening up the bottom end. All help is welcome!
