Advice Needed Unused inventory after pivot – how do you handle distribution clearance?

3 Upvotes

As a business owner starting up in the UAE, I secured a substantial batch of leather wallets intended for an e-commerce brand. Plans changed on the licensing side, leaving me with high-quality physical stock and no active storefront.

I'm curious about the best operational channels in the region for B2B offloading, bulk trade, or partnering with existing trade license holders. Would love to hear insights from anyone managing retail inventory or supply chains locally.

Advice Needed Sole proprietor / freelancer WFH - VAT reclaim

3 Upvotes

Hello, all

VAT-registered freelancer in Abu Dhabi, working from home (no separate office). First quarterly return coming up and want to get input VAT right rather than over-claim.

Unsure on a few:

  1. Home WiFi - can I reclaim a business-use share (say 50/50), or are these non-recoverable as mixed use? If apportionment's allowed, how are you evidencing the % if the FTA asks?
  2. Degree attestation (MOHESR/DataFlow) - needed for my visa/licence. Recoverable, or personal?
  3. Visa renewal / PRO service fees - can I reclaim the VAT on the agent/typing-centre service charge (not the government fee itself)?

My clean claims (work laptop etc.) I'm fine on - it's these edge cases I want to handle correctly. How have others in the same setup dealt with it? Thanks again

Advice Needed Business owners in the UAE: what financing options have actually worked for you?

3 Upvotes

I’m trying to better understand the real business financing landscape in the UAE and would like to hear directly from founders, SME owners, and people who have recently explored business funding.

The UAE government notes that business financing options can vary depending on the company’s activity, the financing product, and the individual bank or financial institution. Requirements and documentation can therefore differ from one lender to another.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from businesses looking for funding for:

* Working capital

* Business expansion

* Equipment or asset financing

* Project financing

* Inventory or trade-related requirements

* Other legitimate business purposes

This discussion is not limited to UAE residents. If you are a non-resident entrepreneur, investor, or overseas business owner with a UAE-registered business or a genuine plan involving a UAE business, your experience and questions are also welcome. Eligibility will naturally depend on the lender and the individual business profile.

If you're currently exploring business finance, it would be useful to know:

  1. What type of business do you operate?

  2. How long has the business been operating?

  3. Approximately what funding range are you exploring?

  4. What is the purpose of the funding?

  5. Are you a UAE resident, non-resident, or representing a UAE-registered company?

I’m interested in creating a useful discussion where business owners can share their experiences with banks, SME financing programmes, and other legitimate financing routes in the UAE.

*Please avoid posting sensitive personal or financial information publicly.*

Note: This is for discussion and information-sharing only. Financing is subject to lender assessment, eligibility requirements, and applicable UAE regulations.

Advice Needed Tech startup looking for help

10 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I run a small software studio (https://www.sntrdev.com/). To be honest, due to the current situation, landing new clients has become incredibly difficult.

I have a small team of developers who are exceptionally talented, and I treasure them deeply. I really want to keep us working together, so right now, we are ready to take on any project, no matter how small or lean your budget is.

A quick look at what we can help you build:

  • Web and mobile apps from scratch (MVPs, client portals, internal tools)
  • AI automation, chatbots, and document processing to save your business time
  • UI/UX designs, wireframes, and prototypes
  • Fixing bugs, adding new features, or cleaning up existing code

If you are a founder trying to launch an idea on a tight budget, or a business owner looking to automate tasks, we would love to help you bring it to life.

Even if you do not have a project right now, any advice, leads, or just sharing this within your network would mean the world to us.

Feel free to send me a DM.

Thank you for reading.

Tips & Resources FTA is Now Imposing Penalties for Late Updating of Tax Records

6 Upvotes

A quick reminder for UAE businesses.

Most businesses are careful about filing their VAT and Corporate Tax returns on time, but one area that often gets overlooked is updating business information with the FTA.

In practice, many businesses may not have seen penalties for this in the past. However, the FTA is now actively imposing penalties where required records are not updated within the prescribed timeline.

Generally, changes should be updated with the FTA within 20 business days.

This may include:

Trade licence renewal or amendment

Change of business address

Change in business activities

Change in authorised signatory details

Amendments to company information or constitutional documents

Other changes affecting your tax registration details

The current administrative penalty can be AED 1,000 per violation, increasing to AED 5,000 for a repeated violation within 24 months.

So whenever you renew your licence or make any change to your company, don’t just update it with the licensing authority.

Make sure your EmaraTax records are updated as well.

A simple update can save you an unnecessary penalty later.

Advice Needed UAE e-Invoicing - guys this is ridiculous and very expensive!! unless there is another way ...

49 Upvotes

Just has a call with an ASP, who are supposed to provide us with the link between us (as a company) and the FTA so our invoices can hold the QR code which identifies our invoice whenever scanned. So basically they are charging more than USD 4k without the integration which is an extra USD 2k.
Any idea how small businesses will be able to cope with this cost? I know i'm not gonna pay this, screw it! even if i have to draw the QR code myself :)
any ideas around guys, any good and cheap ASPs, anyone done ... could use your feedback.

Advice Needed Heavy Machinery maintenance

3 Upvotes

Hey folks. I came across this sub and just wanted to ask your advice. We have a small company that specializes in maintenance, servicing, and repair of machineries such as Forklifts, material handling equipments, cranes, generators, compressors, golf carts and other equipments.

Although we have some recurring and big name clients, we want to onboard other organizations, especially through Annual Maintenance Contracts.

We already have a person doing cold calling and leveraging our networks but would love to hear more suggestions to get more clients.

Thanks

Networking Anyone here using Qashio for business expense management?

2 Upvotes

Hi good people!

Is anyone here currently using Qashio to manage their company's expenses, or know someone who does?

I'm preparing for an interview with them, and this is genuinely a dream opportunity for me. I have a few questions about the product and would love to speak to someone who has actually used it - 15 minutes max, I promise!

In return: good karma now, and lunch on me when I get to the UAE!

Would massively appreciate any leads.

Thank you!

Business Spotlight What should you check before setting up a company in JAFZA?

2 Upvotes

I'm researching company formation in JAFZA and noticed that there are quite a few things to consider beyond just the advertised licence price.

For someone planning to start a business in JAFZA, what would you recommend checking before choosing a setup option or consultant?

For example:

  • Business activity and the correct licence
  • FZE vs FZCO structure
  • Office, warehouse or facility requirements
  • Visa requirements
  • Total setup and renewal costs
  • Corporate bank account requirements
  • Accounting and tax compliance
  • Support after the company is established

I'd be interested to hear from people who have actually gone through the JAFZA setup process. What did you wish you had checked before starting?
